CRIME / INCIDENT: Marijuana Cultivation
LOCATION: Small Farms & Coal Pit Rd., Igo/Ono
VICTIM(S): State of California
SUSPECT: Tanen Munoz & Russell Judson

On 6/3/09 at approximately 1600 hrs., the Shasta Co. Marijuana Eradication Team was conducting operations in the Small Farms area. The subjects were contacted by team members and found to be cultivating 569 marijuana plants. The subjects were in possesssion of assault rifles and a sawed-off shotgun. There were three pit bull dogs on the property. Both subjects were arrested for cultivation of marijuana and being armed during the commission of a felony. Both were transported to the Shasta County Jail. MET (Marijuana Eradication Team) was assisted by SINTF (Shasta Interagency Narcotic Task Force) and DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) members.

CRIME / INCIDENT: Burglary / Vandalism

VICTIM(S): Mt. Burney Center, Burney High School & Pepsi Cola Co.
SUSPECT: Tyson John Ramlow


On 5/30/09 at approximately 0800 hrs., Deputy Matheson had arrested Ramlow by the Green Gale Motel, for drunk in public. Ramlow had cuts on his arms/hands and was bleeding. He advised that he had cut himself accidentally with a knife. Matheson booked Ramlow into the Shasta County Jail.

At 1057 hrs., Burney High School Principal, Tom Puskarich, reported a burglary and a significant vandalism to school property along with vandalism to Pepsi Co. vending machine on the school grounds. There was significant blood evidence left at the scene.

Deputy Matheson re-contacted Ramlow at the Shasta County Jail. Ramlow confessed to the burglary and vandalism. Estimated cost of the damage is $2000.00 plus.

Ramlow smashed two windows to the Mountain Burney Center to gain entry and broke an additional window. Ramlow stole a computer, keyboard and monitor from inside the building. The computer and keyboard were recovered on the school grounds, but the monitor was not located. Ramlow smashed the window to the northeast entry door to gain entry into Burney High School. Nothing was taken from the high school. Ramlow damaged the Pepsi Co vending machine, in the high school quad area, by pulling off the plexi-glass and pulling off the sheet metal on the inside.

CRIME / INCIDENT: Carjacking
LOCATION: Mountain Gate
SUSPECT: Edgard Guilliano Liquidano


On 5/30/09 at approximately 0804 hrs., dispatch received a call of a carjacking. Liquidano carjacked a SUV near O'Brien Mount Road and Packer's Bay Marina. Emergency notification calls were made to residents and businesses. A BOLO for the suspect was issued for law enforcement officials from Sacramento to Yreka.

Deputies, California Highway Patrol Officers and a helicopter hunted for the suspect for more than two hours. Liquidano was taken into custody around 10:45 a.m. near the Fawndale Exit on I-5 after he got out of the 1994 Suzuki Sidekick and burglarized a home.

After Liquidano was arrested, witnesses reported a possible second suspect. Deputies and a U.S. Forest Service Ranger with his police dog continued to search and could not find any trace of a second suspect. The search was called off around noon.

CRIME / INCIDENT: Rape of Unconsciencous Victim
LOCATION: Fall River Mills Area
VICTIM(S): Confidential Female
SUSPECT: Blagovest "Bobby" Atanasov Danailov

On 5/30/09, at approximately 0950 hrs., the Shasta County Sheriff's Office Burney Division was contacted by the victim in regards to being a victim of a rape. The location of occurrence was at a residence in eastern Shasta County in the Glenburn Fall River Mills area.

During the investigation and several witness interviews, the victim was intoxicated and had "Passed Out" in one of the bedrooms of the home. The victim had awakened to find the suspect, Blagovest "Bobby" Danailov, lying next to her on the bed while she was partially nude.

Evidence and medical evaluation suggested the suspect, Danailov, had sexually assaulted the victim while she was asleep.

During the interview of both victim and Danailov had revealed the act of Rape of Unconsciencous victim had occurred. Danailov was arrested and is being held at the Shasta County Mail Jail with a bail amount set of $100,000.00 dollars. Danailov is awaiting his first court appearance set for June 1, 2009 at 1330 hrs., in Shasta County Superior Court.

CRIME / INCIDENT: Lost Campers
LOCATION: Beegum Gorge Area
VICTIM(S): Everett Duncan 25 yrs., Darien Berroteran 37 yrs., Jake Warner 34 yrs., & Blaza, Everett Duncan's canine

On 4/28/09 at approximately 2330 hrs., Victoria Duncan reported victim Everett Duncan and his two friends, Berroteran and Warner, as overdue persons. Victoria stated the three had gone camping in the Beegum Gorge area of Western Shasta County on 4/27/09, and were scheduled to return on 4/28/09 at 2100 hrs. When the victims did not return, Victoria called the Shasta County Sheriffs Office and reported the three along with Everett's dog, Blaza, as overdue.

Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue personnel, along the California Highway Patrol (CHP) helicopter were contacted to assist in the search, which began shortly after daybreak on 4/29/09. The CHP helicopter spotted the three and the dog at the base of a gorge. Duncan, Berroteran, Warner and Blaza were air lifted out of the area and safely returned to a staged landing zone. All victims had no reported injuries and all refused any medical attention.

VICTIM: Terry Lee Muzzy

Muzzy a transient from Missouri arrived in Redding approximately a week ago to visit friends. Muzzy had several thousand dollars from a settlement in his possession and was staying with a friend at the Sacramento River RV Park. At approximately 0130 hrs., on 4/27/09 unknown persons forcibly removed Muzzy's wallet containing the money from him while he was sleeping. The Sheriff's Office is continuing its investigation into this case.

CRIME / INCIDENT: Small Aircraft Crash
LOCATION: 17815 Clear Creek Rd.

On 4/25/09, Deputies were dispatched to a report of a small aircraft crash. The caller stated the airplane was near Clear Creek Rd. in the area of the City of Redding power plant. Both CDF Fire crews and Mercy Medical Center EMS were dispatched to the area. Deputies arrived at the scene and located the pilot, Don Stanton of Redding standing by the airplane. Stanton informed emergency personnel he was the only occupant in the plane, he was not injured and he refused medical attention. The plane was a two seat, experimental, propeller driven aircraft which was owned and constructed by the pilot. The pilot told deputies he left the Redding Municipal Airport at approximately 1000 hrs. He was flying the aircraft around the valley and was headed back to the airport when he lost fuel pressure. When he was unable to fix the problem, he started looking for a safe place to land the aircraft. The pilot attempted to land in a dirt field area on the south side of Clear Creek Road. During the landing the nose wheel of the plane failed which caused the plane to flip over on its top, coming to rest approximately 15 feet from Clear Creek Road. The FAA and NTSB were contacted via telephone. An agent from the NTSB talked to the pilot then released the plane to the pilot, who removed it from the area. Clear Creek Road was shut down for approximately one hour while the crash was investigated and the airplaane removed from the area by the pilot.

SUSPECT(S): David Raymond Hunt

On 4/8/09, Deputies from the Shasta County Sheriff's Burney Station responded with U.S. Marshals to an address on Sugarpine Street in Burney in an attempt to locate an escaped fugitive. David Raymond Hunt had walked away from a federal work camp in Washington State approximately two years ago. Hunt supposedly had been hiding at the Sugarpine location for most of that time. Law enforcement had responded to the address numerous times over the past several years on other calls for service, but had no knowledge Hunt was staying at the location. Hunt had hidden under the house each time law enforcement responded to the house, and was found hiding under the house on Wednesday's raid with the assistance of Sheriff's K-9 team Deputy Ken Knoenen and Zeus.

Hunt is being held at Shasta County Jail on numerous Federal charges.

CRIME / INCIDENT: Kidnapping & Sexual Assault

SUSPECT(S): Lo Hinh Saephanh, 26 yrs.

On 4/8/09 at approximately 1141 hrs., SHASCOM dispatch received a 911 call from the victim of a kidnapping that initiated on Placer Rd., near the Clear Creek Bridge in Shasta County. The victim called from a business in the City of Shasta Lake where she was able to flee from her captor who then fled in her car with her two young children ages 5 and 2. The victim was sexually assaulted and threatened with a weapon (not a firearm) during the ordeal. Sheriff's deputies began looking for the suspect and saw him northbound on I-5 at Lakehead. The suspsect was believed to still have the victim's children in his car. The suspect, going at speeds of 60-70 mph, continued north with deputies following. He exited the freeway at the Sweetbriar off ramp and continued southound on I-5 toward Redding. Several attempts were made to disable the vehicle with spike strips north of Shasta Lake flattening the vehicle's tires. As the vehicle continued south on I-5 south of Oasis Rd., the suspect's vehicle was forced into the center median where the pursuit was terminated. The children were not in the vehicle and discovered safe at a relative's residence of the suspect.

The Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Redding Police Department and the California Highway Patrol air and ground units.

SUSPECT(S): Shariah Ann Reid, Kevin James Watkins and Clinton A. Roach

The Shasta County Sheriff's Office has continued with its investigation of the Home Invasion/Burglary on Flicker Way, in Anderson that occurred on 3/17/09.

On 3/19/09, Shariah Reid was identified as the female who had gone to the residence in advance of the home invasion and assisted in driving the two suspects from the scene. She was taken into custody and is presently at the Shasta County Jail.

On 3/20/09, Kevin Watkins was identified as one of the suspects who had committed the home invasion. He admitted his responsibility and is presently in-custody at the Shasta County Jail.

Through the course of investigation it has been determined the third responsible is Clinton Roach. Roach has a warrant for his arrest not related to this investigation.

Investigators have been attempting to locate Roach. It was agreed Roach would turn himself into the Sheriff's Office on 3/25/09 however failed to show. Anyone with information regarding Roach's whereabouts can call SHASCOM at 530-245-6540 or Secret Witness at 530-243-2319.

SUSPECT(S): #1 BMA 6'2", 210 lbs, 25-30 yrs.
#2 WMA 6'0", #3 WFA 5'4", 170 lbs. 18-23 yrs.

On 3/17/09 at approximately 2309 hrs., Shasta County Sheriff's Deputies responded to 6595 Flicker Way in Anderson, on a report of a home invasion strong armed robbery. The suspects, unknown to the victim, forced their way into the residence, where the victim was tied up. One of the suspects was armed with a tire iron and another suspect was armed with a large knife. The suspects took an undisclosed amount of cash from the victim and left in an unknown vehicle.

The investigation is continuous and anyone with information is asked to call the Shasta County Sheriff's Office at 530-245-6135

VICTIM: Yet to be identified

On 3/12/09 at approximately 2116 hrs., a fatal vehicle accident was reported to the Coroner's Office. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim has yet to be positively identified but he was driving a small pick-up truck with an Idaho license plate and was carrying an Arizona driver's license. The victim is a white male approximately 50 yrs. When the victim has been identified and the next of kin notified the name will be released. SUSPECT: Sidney Workman

On 2/21/09 at approximately 1156 hrs., Shasta County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the Jolly Giant Flea Market for a report of a subject trying to sell stolen property. Victims from a residential burglary which occurred in the Happy Valley area observed numerous tools which Sidney Workman was trying to sell, Workman was arrested and booked at the jail for possession of stolen property, the investigation is continuing.

CRIME / INCIDENT: Assault with a Deadly Weapon
LOCATION: 20623 Lassen View Lane
SUSPECT: Jason G. Gregory

On 2/21/09 at approximately 0821 hrs., Shasta County Sheriff's Deputies were at 20623 Lassen View Lane to serve a Felony arrest warrant on Jason Gregory. Upon opening the door to his trailer Gregory released a pit bull which charged aggressively at Deputy C. Darrah. Deputy Darrah subdued the dog with a taser. This appeared to be a deliberate act and Gregory was charged with Assault with a Deadly weapon as well as Obstructing an Officer.

Notification has been made to the next of kin of Dale and Haley Vaughn. Cause of death will be determined pending post mortem examination.

LOCATION: Main St., Castella
VICTIM: Withheld pending notification of next of kin

On 2/17/09 at aproximately 1201 hrs., emergency personnel were summoned to a residence on Main St., in Castella. Fire Rescue and Sheriff's personnel responded to a report of 2 deceased subjects inside of a residence. Further investigation revealed that during the weekend a generator had been utilized due to a power outage. It appears that both subjects succumbed to emissions from the generator. At this point their identies are being witheld pending notification of next of kin. The victims appear to be that of a teenage female and an adult male. The Sheriff's Office is presently conducting an investigation and the Coroner's Office will release the names when appropriate notifications have been made.

VICTIM: Palo Cedro Pharmacy
SUSPECT(S): Unknown

On 2/5/09 at approximately 1757 hrs., an unknown male entered the Palo Cedro Pharmcy with an unknown type of handgun and fled the business after a short time with unknown property. Deputies, Sheriff's Office detectives, California Highway Patrol officers and the CHP helicopter searched the area, but did not locate the suspect.

The suspect was described as a white male, 5'11" to 6'0" tall with a slender build. He was wearing a green fatigue jacket with a hood, blue pants and used something gray to cover his face.

The incident is still under investigation and anyone with information about the incident or the suspect is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at (530) 245-6025.

LOCATION: 9125 Deschutes Rd.,
VICTIM: Tri Counties Bank
SUSPECT(S): Nathaniel Smith & Charles Kesselring

On 2/5/09 at approximately 0958 hrs., SHASCOM Dispatch received a silent alarm from Tri-Counties Bank in Palo Cedro. Approximately one minute later bank authorities called 911 confirming that the bank had been robbed. Additional information was received providing a description of the suspect and the vehicle he fled the scene in (a green mini van). Shasta County Sheriff's Office Deputies located a similar vehicle in the area and initiated a traffic stop. The green van that was occupied by two individuals fled the scene at a high rate of speed, leading Deputies on an extended vehicle pursuit. The pursuit was terminated in the Anderson Factory Outlet's parking lot after a collision with a patrol vehicle. One individual was taken into custody from within the vehicle without incident. The other individual ran from the vehicle and was apprehended with assistance of Deputy Tyler Thompson's K-9 (Larus). One of the suspects was taken into custody matched the description of the individual who robbed the bank. The Anderson Police Department, Redding Police Department and California Highway Patrol Air Operations, provided assistance.

VICTIM: Aaron Louis Harvey, 21 yrs.
WITNESS: Gregg Matthew Phipps

On 1/26/09 at 0200 hrs., SHASCOM dispatch received a report of a shooting on Hardenbrook in the City of Shasta Lake. Sheriff's deputies arrived at the residence of Gregg Phipps and found Aaron Harvey the victim of a gunshot. Harvey who was lying on Phipp's front porch was suffering a bullet wound to the abdomen. Harvey was shot after being confronted by Phipps in Phipp's yard and coming at Phipps. Phipps does not know Harvey. Harvey was transported To Mercy Hospital and is undergoing surgery. He is expected to recover from his wounds.

Sheriff's investigators and ID Technicians are continuing with their investigation in to the shooting.

SUSPECT(S): Robert Wade Allen

On 1/22/09 at approximately 1816 hrs., Deputies from the Shasta County Sheriff's Office, Burney Division, responded to a residence in Montgomery Creek, CA. Robert Wade Allen had an active felony warrant for his arrest. Robert Wade Allen was contacted and arrested at his residence, he was later booked into the Shasta County Jail pursuant to the warrant. Robert Wade Allen is being held for suspicion of (8) felony counts of lews acts with a child under the age of 14; his bail was set at $800,000.

CRIME / INCIDENT: Armed Robbery
LOCATION: 38006 Hwy 299E, Johnson Park
VICTIM: J-Mart Gas Station
SUSPECT(S): Caucasian, 5'10" to 5'11", 140-160 lbs (thin build),
blk clothing, blk mask

On 1/20/09, at approximately 0754 hrs., an armed robbery occurred at the J-Mart Gas Station located at 38006 HWY 299E in Johnson Park, Ca. The above described suspect entered the business and demanded money from the store clerk while holding a firearm. The clerk immediately provided the suspect with an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspect ordered the clerk to lie on the ground while he (suspect) left the business.

A Shasta County Sheriff's Office deputy happened to be refueling his patrol vehicle outside while this was occurring. The deputy was unaware of the robbery at the time the suspect left the location. Moments later the clerk ran outside to notify the deputy. By this time, the suspect was able to flee the area before several other units arrived on scene to assist.

The case is currently assigned and being investigated by Detective Jesse Gunsauls of the Burney Sheriff's Office Station. Anyone with information regarding the suspect or this case is asked to contact the Shasta County Sheriff's Office Burney Patrol Division.

CRIME / INCIDENT: Robbery, Assault, Stolen Property, etc.
LOCATION: Burney, Ca.
VICTIM: Manuel Cardenas, HMJ and State of Ca.
SUSPECT(S): #1 IMJ 17 yrs., #2 IMJ 17 yrs.

On 1/12/09 at approximately 1430 hrs., Shasta County Sheriff's Deputy John Meeker responded to Rite Aid parking lot in Burney for a report of a stolen bike. When Deputy Meeker arrived on scene, the reporting party advised Deputy Meeker two males had forced his brother off his bike near the location when he responded to find the responsible parties, they threatened him with a knife and also took his bike.

Deputy Meeker saw the suspects, one still on the stolen bicycle. When Deputy Meeker attempted to stop the two subjects, they ignored his commands to stop. Deputy Meeker was able to stop the subject on the bicycle at which time the defendant tried to assault him. As other units responded to assist Deputy Meeker, they were also threatened and assaulted by the defendant Deputy Meeker had stopped. The second defendant who had run away was reported to be back near the Rite Aid parking lot in an altercation with the two victims. Deputies from the Burney Station and CHP responded and arrested the second defendant after sorting through numerous bystanders and family members who had come to the aid of the victims. Both suspect were booked into juvenile hall.

CRIME / INCIDENT: Assault w/deadly weapon
LOCATION: 36977 Oak St., Burney
VICTIM: Christopher Justice Mitchell
SUSPECT: Michael Louie Mitchell

On 1/4/09 at approximately 3:27 PM the Burney Fire District responded to 36977 Oak St. in Burney on a victim, Christopher Mitchell, who sustained an injury to his leg by an axe. Once Burney Fire arrived, it was determined by EMT's the injury was intentional and notified the Shasta County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies arrived on scene while Christopher Mitchell was being loaded onto the ambulance. Deputies interviewed numerous people in the neighborhood to obtain further information on the incident. It was later discovered Christopher Mitchell's brother, Michael Mitchell, was responsible and fled the residence prior to our arrival.

Sheriff's Deputies with the assistance of the California Highway Patrol and CHP helicopter searched the area and known residences Michael Mitchell frequents. Michael Mitchell is on parole and is now wanted for a parole violation as well.

CRIME / INCIDENT: Juvenile Burn Victim
LOCATION: 19267 Peacock Way, Cottonwood
VICTIM: 12 yr., old male

On 1/1/09 at approximately 1542 hrs., SHASCOM received several 911 calls reporting a juvenile burn victim at 19267 Peacock Way in Cottonwood. Investigation by Shasta County Sheriffs Deputies revealed that several juvenile males were playing with a five gallon can containing diesel fuel and igniting scrap lumber with it. One of the juveniles was severely burned when the can exploded catching him on fire. The victim was transported to Mercy Hospital and then flown to UC Davis ER.

CRIME / INCIDENT: Accidental Shooting
LOCATION: 11282 Deacon Trail, Bella Vista
VICTIM: Steven Douglas Harriman
SUSPECT: Raymond Otis Kody

On 1/1/09 at approximately 0004 hrs., Deputies were dispatched to the above address for an accidental shooting. Upon arrival Deputies contacted the victim and suspect on scene. Further investigation revealed that the suspect had removed the lead pellets from shotgun shells and was firing the 20 gauge shotgun as a new year's celebration. During this event the suspect accidentally discharged the firearm at the victim striking him in his right thigh. The victim sustained a moderate but not life threatening injury to his thigh. The victim was taken to Mercy Medical Center for treatment. Further investigation to follow and possible criminal charges may be sought.

CRIME / INCIDENT: Minor Decoy Operation

On 12/27/08, from 1500 to 2100 hrs., members from the Shasta County Sheriff's Office conducted a "Minor Decoy" operation in the City of Anderson and the unicorporated area of Shasta County. The operations are funded through a grant from ABC. During this operation 14 businesses were visited.

One business sold to the minor decoy's, La Corona in Cottonwood

Tina Tijerina of Redding was arrested for serving alcohol to minors.

The Shasta County Sheriff's Office would like to thank the California Department of Alcohol Beverage Control for funding this program and the local ABC licensed businesses and refusing to sell to the minor "decoy".

The following businesses did not sell to the decoy's. Branding Iron, Luigi's Pizza, Firehouse Bar, All Stars Sports Bar, Palo Cedro Inn, Good Times Pizza, Red Rock Saloon, R.C.'s Pizza Factory, Joe's Giant Orange, and Latino's.

VICTIM: Floyd Larkins, 53 yrs.

On 12/27/08, at approximately 1319 hrs., Shasta County Sheriff's Office received a report of a gunshot victim at Mercy Hospital. The Victim, Floyd Larkins suffered a gunshot to the thigh. Larkins would not provide a statement regarding a suspect or the location where the incident occurred.

VICTIM: Shelby Allen, 17 yrs.

On 12/22/08, a post mortem examination was conducted at the Shasta County Coroner's Office. The examination revealed there was no foul play resulting in the decedent's death. The decedent was identified as Shelby Lyn Allen from Redding. Cause of death will be determined pending toxicology results.

On 12/20/08 at approximately 0904 hrs., Shasta County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to 20109 Old Alturas Rd., in Redding for an unknown death of a White Female Juvenile. The Juvenile was found in the bathroom of the above listed residence unconscious. During the course of the investigation it was determined the victim had been drinking with two other juveniles. The Investigation is on going.

On 12/19/2008 at at approximately 1631 hrs., Shasta County Deputies were dispatched to 17722 Meek Landing Lane in Anderson for a residential burglary. The victim Charles Sullivan told Deputies someone had entered his residence and taken $6300.00 dollars in collector coins.

On 12/19/08 at approximately 2000 hrs., Win River contacted the Shasta County Sheriff's Office and informed the Sheriff's Office two males were at the Casino and had exchanged approximately $50.00 in collector coins.

On 12/20/08 at approximately 1453 hrs., Rolling Hills Casino contacted the Shasta County Sheriff's Office and stated that they just taken in $591.00 in collector coins and had detained two male subjects. Detectives from the Shasta County Sheriff's Office went to Rolling Hills Casino and spoke to the two male subjects who were identified as Dennis James Parkinson and James Edward Smith.

Based on information provided by Parkinson and Smith a search warrant was drafted and served at a residence in the City of Anderson. Monies and narcotics were located at the residence. The investigation is still on going.

On 12/14/08 at approximately 6:45 PM, Deputies from the Shasta County Sheriff's Office Burney Station responded to the McArthur mobile home park located at 44268 "A" St. in McArthur, CA for the report of a gun shot victim.

Upon arrival, the victim, Juan Jose Valencia Revuelta, had already been transported to Mayers Memorial Hospital for a single gunshot would to his shoulder area. Revuelta is reported to be in stable condition at this time.

The reason for the altercation is still unknown, but is currently being investigated by Detective Jesse Gunsauls of the Burney Sheriff's Station. Burney Deputies have conducted numerous interviews and followed potential leads regarding the identification of three Hispanic adult males responsible for the assault. The three suspects were seen fleeing the area in a late 90's-00's black Ford Escape. Their current whereabouts are pending further investigation.

On 12/7/08 at approximately 0300 hrs., deputies with the Shasta County Sheriff's Office responded to 7846 Kisling Rd.on a report of a physical altercation where one subject was being treated for a stab wound. Upon arrival, V-1, Anderson was found to have multiple stab wounds and V-2, Pearson had a laceration to the face. All the suspects had fled the area prior to deputies arrival. Both victims were transported to Mercy Medical Center. During the investigation it was determined there had been a large party involving approximately 100 subjects. A suspect, identified as Jerle Ferrari was later contacted in the Anderson area and taken into custody without incident. SUSPECT: Jason Lee Moore

On 12/5/08 Jason Lee Moore was sentenced to 10 years 8 months in Superior Court today. His sentence stemmed from two investigations where he was found guilty in both cases by a jury.

In one of the cases, a Shasta County Sheriff's case, Moore and 15 year old female juvenile accomplice were interrupted by the victim while committing a residential burglary in Feb. 2008 in the area of Swasey Dr. and Lower Springs Rd. The victim returned home after picking up her children from school to find Moore inside her home. A two month investigation began and two search warrants later, an arrest warrant was issued for Moore and he was arrested for the burglary. Moore was subsequently found guilty by a jury in Sept 2008 for the burglary. The juvenile was also arrested later and prosecuted in Juvenile Court.

On 12/5/08 members from the Shasta County Sheriff's Office conducted a "Minor Decoy" operation in the unicorporated areas of Southern Shasta County. The operations are funded through a grant from the Alcoholic Beverage Control. During this operation twenty businesses were visited.

The one subject above was arrested for selling alcohol to the minor decoy.

LOCATION: Sacramento River at HWY 44 Bridge
VICTIM(S): Richard Mahon 61 yrs., Timothy Seal 54 yrs., & Patrick Seal 14 yrs.

On 12/2/08 at approximately 1147 hrs., the Shasta County Sheriff's Office received a report of a vessel accident on the Sacramento River at the Highway 44 Bridge. A 17 foot drift boat had struck a piling while the operator, Timothy Seal, was attempting to navigate the passage way underneath the bridge. This caused the drift boat to overturn and all three passengers were thrown into the river. All three were wearing personal floatation devices and were able to swim to a gravel bar in the middle of the river.

Deputies from the Boating Safety Unit resonded to the scene and were able to rescue all three victims from the gravel bar. All three declined any medical treatment on scene. The subjects were fly-fishing on the river at the time of the accident. The investigation revealed that Timothy Seal was inexperienced in drift boat operations and this was a factor in the collison.

The Shasta County Sheriff's Office Work Release Program will be accepting applications on 12/1/08 to 12/15/08 for the 12th Annual Christmas Bicycle Giveaway. The Sheriff's Office refurbishes bicycles for those who would like to give a bicycle to their children and cannot afford one. The Sheriff's Office hopes to give away 100 used and refurbished bicycles this year.

Applications can be picked up for a limited time at the Work Release Office on Veterans Lane in Redding. The Bicycle Giveaway will be held 12/23/08 at 9:00 am to 11:00 am. The Injury Prevention Coalition of Shasta County will be at this event to fit your child with a helmet. and we are expecting a visit from Shasta Claus during this event.

SUSPECT: Nicholas Christopher Smith, 22 yrs.

On 2/26/08 at 1957 hrs., Denise Portillo died as a result of Hit & Run vehicle collision. She fell from the open bed of a pick-up being driven by suspect Nicholas Smith and struck the roadway causing her fatal injuries. An accident investigation was conducted and a report filed with the Shasta County District Attorney's Office for review for criminal charges.

On 11/21/08 at 1135 hrs., Shasta County Sheriff's Deputies assigned to the City of Shasta Lake responded to the above location to serve an arrest warrant for 20001(a) CVC Hit & Run accident causing death/injury, 192 PC Vehicular Manslaughter w/o gross negligence, 14601.2(a) CVC, driving on a suspended license w/special circumstances, 23116 CVC unsafe riding and 16028(a) CVC, no proof of insurance. Nicholas Smith was located and arrested for the above charges without incident. He was booked into the Shasta County Jail with a bail amount of $1,000,000.00 pending criminal prosection.

On 11/20/08 at approximately 2210 hrs., Deputy Cary Erickson was patrolling 299E near Halcumb Cemetery, when he observed a light colored sedan pass him traveling east with equipment violations. As Deputy Erickson attempted to catch up with the vehicle for a traffic stop, the driver accelerated to speeds over 100 mph. As Deputy Erickson neared the vehicle, approaching Moose Camp, he was still traveling over 100 mph. The driver sped down Hatchett Mountain grade driving at times on the wrong side of the roadway with obvious disregard for the safety of other motorists. As the suspect neared the bottom of Hatchett Mountain grade, he attempted make a 90 degree left hand turn still traveling at speeds nears 100 mph. The suspect vehicle crashed over a small mound of dirt and came to a stop approximately 200 feet off the pavement. The sole occupant ran from the vehicle in an attempt to escape, but was quickly apprehended by Deputy Erickson and taken into custody. An incidental search of the suspect vehicle produced narcotics and paraphernalia.

The suspect was uncooperative about his identity and was in possession of several forms of identification that were false. The responsible is being held at the Shasta County main jail on felony evading and narcotic violations.

The Sheriff's Office is continuing its investigation of the shooting death of Hunter Rhoades, age 4. The Sheriff's Office has learned that Hunter was alone in the master bedroom closet when the accident occurred. The weapon used was the service weapon issued to Jason Rhoads by the Redding Police Department.

This investigation will ultimately be forwarded to the Shasta County District Attorney's Office for review upon completion.

VICTIM: Hunter Anthony Rhoads, 4 yrs.,

On 11/6/08 at approximately 1410 hrs., the Shasta County Sheriff's Office received a report of an accidental shooting at a residence on Pembroke Ln., in Shasta Lake. Sheriff's Deputies responded to the residence and discovered that a four-yr., old male had been the victim of gun shot wound, and started to administer first aid. The weapon used is believed to be a handgun. The circumstances surrounding the shooting and how access to the firearm was obtained, is under investigation. The Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit and Identification Technicians are currently at the scene to further investigate. The child was transported to Mercy Hospital and has expired due to his injuries.

On 10/31/08 officers from the Shasta County Sheriff's Office, F.B.I., Redding Police Department, Shasta County Marshals Office, Probation and Parole conducted a countywide sweep on sex offenders.

During the sweep 75 searches were conducted resulting in two arrests. Both suspects were found to be in violation of their parole terms.

All other Parolees and Probationeers were at home and in compliance with their conditions.

The S.A.F.E. team is funded by the California Office of Emergency Services.

LOCATION: Sacramento River at Hwy 44 Bridge
VICTIM: Murry Hull, Vince D'Alo, Daryl Wise

On 10/30/08 at approximately 1043 hrs., the Shasta County Sheriff Office received a report of a subject in the Sacramento River near the Highway 44 Bridge. A further update revealed that there had been a vessel accident into a piling of the contruction work of the Highway 44 bridge. There were in fact three victims in the river. The Redding Fire Department, Redding Police Department, California Highway Patrol, and the Shasta County Sheriff's Boating Safety Unit Dive Team responded to the scene.

Hull and Wise were able to swim to shore. D'Alo stayed with the vessel and he was rescued by construction workers at the scene. D'Alo was transported to Shasta Regional Hospital to be evaluated for possible hypothermia. None of the victims were wearing life preservers at the time of the accident.

The three victims were fishing on the river when they attempted to go under the Highway 44 Bridge. The 14' vessel struck the piling causing the victims to be thrown into the river. The accident is being investigated by the Shasta County Sheriff's Boating Safety Unit.

The Shasta County Sheriff's Office has identified and contacted the participants in the fight that occurred at the RABA bus stop that occurred on 10/22/08. It is believed at this time the incident was the result of a mutual combat in which the participants were known to each other. The unidentified victim has been located and is okay.

We will continue to follow up with additional information, but at this point it appears to be mutual combat.

The Sheriff's Office received a report of an assault that occurred at the RABA bus stop at the intersection of Hwy 151 and Montana Ave. in the City of Shasta Lake. The assault was reported on 10/22/08 at approximately 1630 hrs. The Sheriff's Office is attempting to locate the victim who was observed being loaded into a black compact four door vehicle with shiny wheels. The vehicle appeared to be a few years old.

The Sheriff's Office is asking for assistance from anyone who may have observed the assault or know the victim and/or vehicle. Investigators are presently contacting witnesses but need additional help in solving this incident.

SUSPECT: Fernando Sanchez

On September 15, 2008 deputies from the Burney Sheriff's Patrol Division received an anonymous tip that wanted fugitive, Fernando Sanchez, was going to burglarize Bruce Equipment, a business located in McArthur, sometime after 2300 hrs., that evening.

Deputies from the Burney area hid in designated locations around the business to await the arrival of Fernando Sanchez. A short time later, Fernando Sanchez ran across Hwy 299E and unintentionally approached Deputy Joenen and his K9 partner "Zeus." Once Fernando Sanchez realized the presence of law enforcement, Fernando Sanchez attempted to flee. Zeus, a 5 yr old Belgian Malinois, was released and apprehended Fernando Sanchez. Fernando Sanchez sustained minor injuries from Zeus, which consisted of bite wounds.

Fernando Sanchez had been a fugitive in the area, eluding law enforcement for the past year. Fernando Sanchez had several warrants for his arrest ranging from felony assaults, probation violations, and failing to register as a sex offender. Fernando Sanchez is being held at the Shasta County Jail in lieu of $140,000 bail.

On 9/10/08 at approximately 0035 hrs., deputies with the Shasta County Sheriff's Office responded to the Wonderland Tavern, located at 15041 Wonderland Blvd. in Mt. Gate on a report of a possible stabbing. Upon arrival it was discovered that Daniel Bailey had approximately two stab wounds. Bailey was transported to Mercy Medical Center and was reported to be on trauma alert.

The suspect was last observed northbound on Wonderland Blvd. on foot. The area was checked with negative results. The investigation is ongoing and has been forwarded to the Shasta County Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information regarding the incident please contact the Shasta County Sheriff's Office.

On 9/5/08 the Shasta County Sheriff's Office received special recognition at the California Law Enforcement Challenge (CLEC) Traffic Safety Conference at the Hyatt Regency in Sacramento. The Califonria Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control recognized the Shasta County Sheriff's Office with an Individual Award for participation in the State's Minor Decoy Program.

Sheriff Tom Bosenko is committed to reducing underage drinking and Shasta County Deputies conducted 18 operations as they visited all on-sale licensed premises in the county's jurisdiction, including the incorporated cities of Anderson and Shasta Lake City. This commitment to decreasing underage drinking resulted in an 94.92% compliance rating, exceeding the State's average of 82.20%.

On 9/4/08 at approximately 1321 hrs., Shasta County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to a traffic collision at 13701 Hill Blvd. in the City of Shasta Lake, Ca. The driver of a Jeep Liberty apparently stepped on the accelerator peddle as she attempted to park her vehicle. This caused the vehicle to jump the parking curb where it struck the victim, Raymond Butcher, and the outside wall of the building. Mr Butcher was walking toward the front door of the Post Office when he was struck by the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle was not injured during the collision.

Mr. Butcher was treated at the scene and transported to Shasta Regional Medical Center for hip, leg and abdomen pain. Investigation is ongoing.

The fire victim from 12444 Gas Point Rd., Igo on 8/28/08 has been identified. The decedent's name is Dale Carl Carter, 61 year old male from Igo. An autopsy was performed by Dr. Comfort on 9/2/08. His death was caused by smoke inhalation and thermal burns.

SUSPECT: Jose Luis Gomez-Gaxton

On August 29, 2008 at approximately 0954 hrs., Shasta County Sheriff's Deputies made an enforcement stop on a vehicle for speeding and miscellaneous other traffic violations in the area of S/B I-5 just north of Wonderland Blvd in Shasta County.

When deputies asked the driver, identified as Jose Luis Gomez-Gaxton, DOB 5/5/78 from Yakima, WA. for his driver's license, he abruptly reached into a small suitcase type bag in a manner that caused the depputies to be concerned that he was possibly reaching for a weapon. Gomez-Gaxton then drove away from the deputies Gomez-Gaxton then drove away from the deputies and headed S/B on I-5 at a very high rate of speed.

Gomez-Gaxton was driving in a reckless and erratic manner. He was passing vehicles on the left shoulder, and nearly caused several traffic collisions while attempting to evade deputies. Gomez-Gaxton exited I-5 at the Shasta Dam Blvd. exit at a high rate of speed, and was unable to stop for a red light at Shasta Dam Blvd. The vehicle being driven by Gomez-Gaxton was struck broadside by a vehicle being driven by an uninvolved citizen that was proceeding through the intersection. The occupants of the other vehicle were badly shaken up, but were uninjured as a result of the collision.

The suspect vehicle flipped over and struck a guardrail and a traffic signal pole. Gomez-Gaxton fled the accident scene, but was quickly apprehended by deputies. Gomez-Gaxton, who was found to be under the influence of alcohol, was arrested for Hit and Run with Injuries and Evading a Peace Officer with Wanton Disregard for the Safety of Persons or Property. Additional charges may be forthcoming pending the completion of the accident investigation, which is being conducted by the Redding CHP

A passenger in the suspect vehicle, identified as Felipe Barboza Reyes DOB 2/8/62 from Yakima, WA. has an outstanding San Bernardino County warrant for Violation of Probation. Reyes, who is the owner of the vehicle being driven by Gomez-Gaxton, received minor injuries as a result of the collision. Gomez-Gaxton and Reyes were taken to Shasta Regional Medical Center for treatment and then were taken to the Shasta County Jail to be booked, In addition to the noted charges, Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials placed immigration holds on both Gomez-Gaxton and Reyes.

LOCATION: French Gulch
VICTIM: Allen Medaras

The Shasta County Sheriff's Office is in the third day of search operations for Allen Medaras, a French Gulch resident. Medaras was reported missing on 8/13/08.

The Shasta County Sheriff's Office has a command post setup at the French Gulch Fire Department. A mutual aid request was made to the Office of Emergency Service for more Search and Rescue personnel.

Currently, there are approximately twenty-five ground searchers in the French Gulch area. Those counties who have sent support are as follows: Butte County, Colusa County, Glenn County, Sacramento County, Tehama County, Trinity County and the Whiskeytown National Park Service. The California Highway Patrol has also assisted in search.

Medaras is a whitle male adult, appoximately 5'8", 170 lbs, white hair, and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing tan shorts, white t-shirt and slip on type shoes. If the public has any information regarding the location of Medaras, please call the Shasta County Sheriff's Office Incident Command Post at 530-359-2237.

On 8/12/08 members of the Shasta County Sheriff's Office Marijuana Eradication Team did medical marijuana compliance checks in the area of Seaman Gulch. Four subjects were contacted at different locations and all were found to be out of compliance. Several marijuana plants were removed to bring the subject back into compliance. These cases will be sent to the District Attorney's Office for review.

A marijuana growing complex was located with 1,519 growing marijuana plants that were eradicated from a drainage. No suspcts were located.

CRIME / INCIDENT: Strong Arm Robbery
LOCATION: Sportsman Liquor, Fall River Mills
VICTIM: 22 yr., old female employee
SUSPECT: Pending investigation

On 8/12/08 at approximately 11:00 PM, an unidentified male subject entered the premises of the Sportsman Liquor while a female employee was finishing her duties at the business.

When the employee exited one of the buildings, the employee was carring an undisclosed amount of cash from the business earnings. The male subject, who was wearing a black ski mask, approached the female and asked her for the money. No weapons were seen or reported at the time. The male subject fled the business in an unknown direction.

This case is currently having investigated by Detective Jesse Gunsauls of the Shasta County Sheriff's Office Burney Patrol Division. Anyone with leads or information regarding this case is to contact Detective Gunsauls at the Burney Station at 530-245-6070.

CRIME / INCIDENT: Single Vehicle Collision
LOCATION: Ranchera Rd., east of Hill Blvd.
VICTIM(S): Dewey Bolen 60 yrs.

On 8/11/08 at approximately 8:18 PM, motorist Dewey Bolen called to 911 to report a collision he was involved in, which occurred on Ranchera Rd., east of Hill Blvd. in Shasta Lake. Apparently, Bolen lost consciousness temporarily and drove off of Ranchera Rd., through a private gate, clipped a utility pole support wire and struck a tree. The collision caused a power outage to several homes in the vicinity. City of Shasta Lake Sheriff's deputies and fire personnel were quickly on scene to secure the area and close the roadway. City of Shasta Lake Utility workers responded to disconnect downed power line near the incident. City workers anticipated the power wouldn't be restored in the immediate area until the morning hours. Dewey was transported to a local hospital for precautionary measures. Sheriff's officals are currently investigating the collision. No other injuries were reported.

SUSPECT: Loren Hatfield 48 yrs.,

On 8/8/08 at approximately 1508 hrs., Shasta Lake Deputies were dispatched to 4525 Red Bluff St., in regards to a stabbing victim. It was discovered Loren Hatfield had stabbed Richard Wiser in the lower right leg with a knife. Hatfield had also threatened to kill Charolette Pizano with a knife.

Wiser was transported to Shasta Reional Medical Center where he was treated and released for his non-life threatening injury.

Loren Hatfield was arrested for the above listed charges transported and booked into the Shasta County Jail.

LOCATION: Duncan Creek in the area of Ono

The Shasta County Sheriff's Office Marijuana Eradication Team (MET), with the assistance from members of the Department of Justice Campaign Against Marijuana Planting (C.A.M.P.) eradicated a marijuana cultivation site in the area of Duncan Creek, which is in the vicinity of Bully Choop Road. A total of 6,934 growing marijuana plants, weighing 640 pounds were eradicated and destroyed.

This week the Shasta County Marijuana Eradication Team, with assistance from other agencies, have eradicated a total 100,034 growing marijuana plants, 1 subject was arrested, and two weapons were seized.

The marijuana complexes that were eradicated during the last four days appeared to be Mexican National type. Several Hispanic subjects were seen in the complexes during the operations.

These marijuana eradication operations will continue through the growing season.

The Shasta County Sheriff's Office would like to remind the general public to use caution if they encounter an illegal marijuana grow and to report any suspicious activity to the Shasta County Sheriff's Office Marijuana Eradication Team at 530-722-9161.

The total number of marijuana plants eradicated year to date is 267,341..

On 8/8/08 at approximately 1200 hrs., member from the Shasta County Sheriff's Office conducted a "Minor Decoy" operation in the City of Shasta Lake and the unicorporated areas of Shasta County. The operations are funded through a grant from ABC. During this operation 15 businesses were visited.

Two employee's one from Happy Valley Market in Happy Valley, and one from Sunshine Market in the City of Shasta sold alcohol to the minor decoy.

The following business's would not sell to the minor deocy:
Sonny's Market, Sentry Market, Circle K, Valero, Rite Aid, KC Corner Mart, Bridge Bay, Pine Grove 76, Sunshine Market (Cottonwood), Cottonwood Grocery, Food and Fuel, and Bob's Market.

The Shasta County Sheriff's Office would like to thank the Califonria Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control for funding this program and the local ABC licensed businesses that refused to sell to the minor "decoy".

SUSPECT: Unknown Hispanic Male Adult

The Shasta County Sheriff's Office Marijuana Eradication Team (MET), with the assistance from members of the Department of Justice Campaign Against Marijuana Planting (C.A.M.P.), and the Bureau of Narcotics Enforcement (BNE) conducted a two-day marijuana eradication operation that ended this evening.

A total of 63,937 growing marijuana plants, weighing approximately 2.3 tons were eradicated and destroyed from the area of Moose Camp, which is located off of Hwy 299E, just south of Burney.

One Hispanic male was apprehended in the garden site and is currently being held in the Shasta County Jail. Two weapons were seized in the garden site and have been placed into evidence.

CRIME / INCIDENT: Burglary Investigation
LOCATION: Numerous Burney Businesses
SUSPECT(S): Mark Anthony Porter, 27 yrs.

On 8/4/08, Burney deputies began investigating a reported past tense burglary at Hovis Hardware in Burney. It was discovered that the suspect, Mark Porter, had been charging items at the store to a company he did not work for and used a false name. It was also discovered Porter was doing the same thing at Napa Auto Parts. These incidents occurred several times over the past couple months.

Burney Detective, Jesse Gunsauls, took over the investigation and had a search warrant signed to search Porter's residence. On today's date, the search warrant was served and numerous items were recovered. Porter was later interviewed and admitted to commiting the thefts. The interview also led to additional stolen property being recovered. Porter was later arrested and booked at the Shasta County Jail.

On 8/5/08 deputies from the Burney Substation responded to the Big Bend Trailer Park for a report of an assault.

When deputies arrived, they determined that Donald Urban Sr. and Randall Berrington had assaulted each other to the point they were both arrested for assault with a deadly weapon. The assault started when Donald Urban Sr. squirted Randall Berrington with a garden hose.

While deputies were in the area, they found two subjects a Donald Urban Jr., and a Craig Venia who had felony warrants for their arrest. All four subjects were arrested and transported to the Shasta County Jail.

LOCATION: Platina Area of Western Shasta County

The Shasta County Sheriff's Office Marijuana Eradication Team (MET) along with agents from C.A.M.P. (California Department of Justice Campaign Against Marijuana Planting) conducted a marijuana eradication operation in the Platina area of western Shasta County.

Two different marijuana grow sites had been located in July. One garden site was in the western Beegum Gorge area the second site was located approximately one mile north of Platina Road near Highway 36.

A total of 32,718 marijuana plants were located and eradicated. Three Hispanic male adults were seen fleeing the area of Platina Road site. At this time no one is in custody.

To date of 200,000 marijuana plants have been eradicated this season.

CRIME / INCIDENT: Narcotic Trafficking
LOCATION: I-5 north of Oasis intersection, Redding
SUSPECT: Hispanic Male, 5'6" to 5'7", 120 lbs, black hair, no shirt, baggy blue jean pants, shiny metal earring left ear, eyebrow piercing above left eye.

On July 18, 2008 at 0905 hrs., officers with the Shasta County Sheriff's Office stopped a northbound vehicle on I-5 for a vehicle violation, the lone driver was contacted. Officers became suspicious of possible narcotic trafficking. A narcotics detection K-9 was alerted to narcotics in the vehicle. Officers began the process of searching the vehicle, during which time suspect fled in south-easterly direction towards Twin View Blvd., and the Gold Hills area south of Oasis Road. Additional units assisted in search of area to include The Redding Police Department, the California Highway Patrol, and their helicopter unit.

A reverse 911 was initiated by SHASCOM dispatch for the area south of Oasis including Oregon Trail and Collyer Drive. A further search of interior of vehicle revealed a hidden compartment, where they located approximately 30 pounds of tar heroin. Officers are continuing search of the area in an attempt to locate suspect. He is wanted on narcotic trafficking violations.

Anyone who observes the suspect is advised not to make contact with him and call 911 immediately. As new information develops we will issue another news release.

This is one of the largest, if not the largest seizure of heroin in Shasta County history. The investigation of the incident will be made by Cal-MMET (California Multi-Jurisdictional Methamphetamine Enforcement Team) investigators, a five county drug task force that includes Shasta, Tehama, Glenn, Butte, and Colusa Counties in addition to the Redding Police Department and the California Highway Patrol participate in the Task Force.

The Shasta County Sheriff's Office Marijuana Eradication Team, with the assistance of the Department of Fish & Game, National Park Service, and the Department of Justice Campaign Against Marijuana Planting, conducted a two-day marijuana eradication operation on July 16th and 17th, 2008.

During day two, several large marijuana gardens were eradicated.

While checking the area Law Enforcement Officers observed a Hispanic male individual near a compound that was being used to process harvested marijuana from the garden sites. The Hispanic subject fled the area and after a prolonged search, the subject was not found.

Approximately 15,246 marijuana plants were eradicated. Five hundred marijuana plants were hanging to be processed at the compound.

The two-day total of marijuana plants eradicated was approximately 24,513.

SUSPECT: Cameron Stewart & Male Juvenile

On 7/10/2008 at approximately 0356 hrs., Shasta County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a trespassing call on Green Mountain Trail in the Jones Valley Area. Several subjects ranging in age from approximately 16-20 years, were found to be trespassing on private property and swimming in the pool. When confronted by the property owner, the subjects fled in to the brush. Deputies pursued the subjects, apprehending one juvenile male and Cameron Stewart. While at the scene, deputies noticed stolen property in a shed. Upon contacting the owners, it was learned that there were several thefts and burglaries reported to Redding Police Department. Redding Police Investigators took custody of the individuals. Deputies were assisted on scene by Shasta County Sheriff's Detectives and Redding Police Investigators.

SUSPECT: Christopher Shirley, WMA, 28 yrs.

On 7/5/08 at approximatley 0400 hrs., deputies from the Shasta County Sheriff's Office and SWAT Team members responded to a campsite off Windy Point Road to investigate a possible hostage situation. Deputies received information that Shirley was holding his gilfriend and her 5 children against their will and that one of the children was the victim of a gun shot wound. Deputies and SWAT Team members contacted Shirley, his girlfriend, and the 5 children at their camp trailer. The children ages range from 13 years to 1 year of age. The 3 year old gunshot victim was life-flighted to Mercy Medical Center where she was admitted. Shirley was taken into custody on active warrants out of Oregon and the 4 other juveniles were taken into protective custody. The investigation is continuing with potential charges of domestic violence, child neglect, and false imprisonment.

The Shasta County Sheriff's Office Marijuana Eradication Team (MET) along with agents from the U.S.F.S. conducted a marijuana eradication operation in the area of Zogg Mine Road in the area of Zogg Mine Road in western Shasta County. A total of 4,460 marijuana plants were located and eradicated, two firearms were located at the grow site and one Hispanic male adult was seen fleeing the area. At this time no one is in custody.

Investigation is continuing.

SUSPECT: Shawn Bate, 30 yrs.,

On 7/3/08 at approximatley 2400 hrs., deputies were dispatched to 6962 Lillian Dr., Shingletown regarding a shots fired call. Upon arrival Deputies learned that Craig Bateman was in an argument with his neighbor Shawn Bate. The argument was regarding Bate placing large rocks in Bateman's driveway with Bate's tractor. The argument then escalated which resulted in Bate discharging a firearm near Bateman and Bateman's vehicle. Bate was taken into custody and booked in the Shasta County Jail for 246 P.C. Discharge of a firearm at an occupied vehicle and 245 P.C. Assault with a deadly weapon.

SUSPECT: Michael Scarbrough

On 6/20/07 at aproximately 2356 hrs., deputies were dispatched to a reported domestic violence that had just occurred at the above location. While deputies were enroute to the location, several neighbors called dispatch and informed them that the suspect Michael Scarbrough, had barricaded himself in his residence and was in possession of a firearm. At approximately 0133 hrs., Shasta County Deputies set up a perimeter around the residence with assistance from the Siskiyou County Sheriff's Department. Michael Scarbrough was found to be on parole and was currently absconding from his parole agent. After repeated attempts to contact Michael Scarbrough, by telephoning the residnce and by announcements via P.A. system failed, the Shasta County Sheriff's S.W.A.T. team was brought in. At approximately 0540 hrs., the S.W.A.T. team made entry into the residence and were able to take Michael Scarbrough into custody without incident. Michael Scarbrough was booked into the Shasta County Jail for domestic violence and a parole violation.

On 6/12/2008, from 0800 to 1700 hrs., members from the Shasta County Sheriff's Department, Redding Police Department, Shasta County Marshal's Office, Shasta County Probation, State Parole, ICE, US Marshal's Office and the Shasta County District Attorney's Office conducted a countywide sweep targeting Sex Offenders.

During the sweep, 120 Parole/Probation checks and searches were conducted by 27 Police Officers, Deputy Sheriff's, Deputy Marshal's Investigators. 11 arrests were made for various charges. Two additional arrests are forthcoming, pending locating the suspects.

Operation Falcon is a nationwide, yearly event which partners local law enforcement with Federal law enforcement in the apprehension of sex offenders who have violated the law.

On 6/4/2008, the Shasta County Sheriff's Office Marijuana Eradication Team, with the assistance of members from the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the California Department of Fish and Game, went to the area of Lack Creek in Shingletown and conducted a marijuana eradication operation.

A total of 6, 201 marijuana plants were eradicated and destroyed. No suspects were located in the area.

On 6/4/2008 at approximately 1430 hrs., detectives from the Shasta County Sheriff's Major Crimes Unit served a search warrant at the above listed address for stolen property from the outlining areas of Shasta County. Several stolen items were located inside the residence and Anthony Joseph Zumtano was arrested for being a felon in possession of firearms. Several suspects are possibly still outstanding and the investigation is continuing.

VICTIM(S): Arthur Wayne Miller 68 yrs.
SUSPECT: Mayme Lottie Miller, aka Martinez 40 yrs.

On 5/27/2008 sheriff deputies received a report of an overdue person. A roommate of Arthur Wayne Miller reported him as overdue from Sunday evening May 25 and not returning from a visit to his ex-wife's camp, Mayme Miller off Sands Road. Arthur Miller did not have a history of disappearance and sheriff's deputies began checking the Anderson and Happy Valley areas for Arthur. Mayme Miller who was contacted during the search for Arthur indicated she had not seen him since their contact on May 25th.

On May 30th at approximately 1200 hrs., Arthur Miller's abandoned vehicle was located off Whitehouse Drive, just south of Happy Valley Road. The vehicle had damage to it not observed by Arthur's friends on Sunday when he was last seen in Shingletown. Sheriff's deputies and investigators began focusing their search for Arthur Miller in the wooded area north of Sands Road in and around Mayme Miller's camp. The body of a subject believed to be Arthur Miller was discovered around 1530 hrs., under brush near Mayme Miller's camp.

The investigation began to focus on Arthur's ex-wife, Mayme Miller. Mayme was interviewed at the Sheriff's Major Crimes Unit where she confessed to the murder of Arthur Miller and the concealment of his body on May 25th. Mayme Miller was transported to the Shasta County Jail and booked on an open count of Murder.

Sheriff's office personnel are on scene to search for additonal evidence.

On 5/30/2008 at approximatelly 1200 hrs., a vehicle was located on Whitehouse Rd. and Happy Valley Rd. The vehicle belonged to an overdue person out of the Shingletown area who was reported overdue on May 27, 2008. Through investigative leads and with witness information it was determined that the missing person had possibly gone to the Sands Rd. area. A search of that area found a transient campsite. A deceased male was located in the wooded area by the campsite. He is believed to be the victim of a homicide due to the circumstances surrounding his disappearance and death.

Crime scene personnel were at the scene today and will continue with their investigation through tomorrow. Investigators are attempting to contact persons who may have information. Anybody with information is requested to contact the Sheriff's Office at 530-245-6025.

CRIME / INCIDENT: Evading a Peace Officer
LOCATION: Oasis Rd, west of Beltline
VICTIM(S): State of California
SUSPECT: Male Juvenile 16 yrs.,

On 5/26/2008 at approximatelly 1120 hrs., a Shasta County Sheriff's Deputy observed a male riding an ATV (qaud-runner) eastbound on Oasis Rd. west of Beltline Rd. An enforcement stop was attempted on the ATV, but the operator on the ATV failed to yield to the patrol vehicle's lights and siren. The ATV turned off Oasis Rd. and traveled southound from Oasis Rd. just west of the Union Pacific Railroad tracks. Due to the rough terrain, ground units were unable to follow the ATV.

CHP Helicopter H-16 arrived in the area and located the ATV. CHP H-16 was able to guide deputies into the area. The operator of the ATV abandoned the ATV and fled on foot from deputies. After a short foot pursuit, the subject was taken into custody without further incident. The operator of the ATV was discovered to be a juvenile male 16 yrs. The juvenile was booked into the Shasta County Juveinle Hall for misdemeanor charges of evading a peace officer.

On 5/23/2008, at approximately 1030 hrs., the Shasta County Sheriff's Office received a call of an airplane flying in the Fall River area which appeared to be in distress. It was also reported that the airplane went down and black smoke was seen in the area of the crash. Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched and arrived on scene to find that a small single engine aircraft had crashed in a field in the north east area of Fort Crook Ave., in Fall River. There appeared to be four occupants in the aircraft which were found deceased upon deputies arrival. The identities of the four occupants are being withheld at this time due to family notifications. The FAA and the NTSB have been notified and are responding from the Los Angeles and Boulder, Colorado areas and should be on scene on 5/25/08 to conduct an investigation into the crash. More information will be released at a later time.

CRIME / INCIDENT: Minor Decoy Operation

On 5/23/2008, members from the Shasta County Sheriff's Office with agents from Alcoholic Beverage Control conducted a "Minor Decoy" operation in the City of Shasta Lake and the unincorporated area of Shasta County. The operations are funded through a grant from ABC. During this operation 32 businesses were visited.

The following people were arrested for selling alcohol to the minor decoy:
Jenna Lewis, Burney Chevron
Stacy Easley, Corner Post, Burney
Elizabeth Laytor, Burney Exxon, Fall River Mills
Crystal Field, Antlers Shell, Lakehead

In addition a "shoulder tap" operation was conducted, 26 people were approached by the decoy and asked to purchase alcohol. One person, Brian Reltor from San Bruno, Ca. was arrested for purchasing alcohol for a minor.

During one of the "shoulder taps" one subject, Clyde Davis of Redding, stole the decoys money and left in a vehicle. Davis was contacted and arrested for 488 PC and booked into the jail. The driver of the vehicle, Richard Vowell of Shasta Lake City was arrested on an outstanding warrant and 11350 H&S (Possession of Ecsstasy).

On 5/20/2008, deputies were dispatched to a welfare check on Durrett St., in the City of Shasta Lake. Deputies contacted a female subject who stated her estranged husband was upset over their break-up and shot himself in the foot with a .357 cal. hundgun. Deputies contacted the male subject and immediately called for medical personnel to respond. Deputies recovered two handguns and ammunition, including the gun used in the disturbance. After contacting all involved parties, the male subject was transported by ambulance and was treated at Redding Mercy Hospital for his injury as well as a mental health evaluation.

On 5/12/2008 at approximately 1740 hrs., a deputy attempted to stop two male subjects who were illegally riding their off-road (2-wheel) motorcycles on the road near the Valero service station on Cascade Blvd in the City of Shasta Lake. The subjects fled from the deputy on their dirt-bikes and a pursuit ensued for a short distance on Buena Vista St. The subjects rode up a dirt trail to the north, past the dead end on Buena Vista St., trespassing on to the Perry Property adjacent to the west of Interstate 5. Deputies surrounded the property and subsequently deployed an All-Terrain Motorcycle Unit in an attempt to locate and apprehend the two violators on the underdeveloped property. A Sheriff's deputy driving a four-wheel drive SUV was also deployed at the northeast end of the Perry Property before he located and detained two subjects with dirt-bikes matching the description of the evading riders. The A.T.M.U. assisted in the field with the arrests. The subjects, identified as David Frisbee, 22, of Anderson, and David Nagle, 24, of Shasta Lake, were arrested and taken to the Shasta County Jail for charges of evading a peace officer, 2800.1 CVC, no registration, 4000(a) CVC, trespassing, 602 PC and (Nagle) was charged with driving on a suspended license, 14601.1 CVC. Both subject were booked and released on their own recognizance in lieu of $1,000.00 bail. The truck and two off-road motorcycles were towed and stored.

The Coroner's Office responded to the area of Interstate 5, North of Gilman Rd., for a fatal traffic accident. A male subject was struck by a vehicle in the northbound lane of Interstate 5 and found deceased when CHP officers arrived. The deceased pedestrian was later identified as Marcus Klock, 18 years old of the City of Shasta Lake. The cause of death is pending a post-mortem examination by the Shasta County Coroner's Office, which is scheduled May 14, 2008.

SUSPECT: S#1 WMJ 16 yrs., S#2: Joshua Matthew Harvey 18 yrs.

On 5/5/08 at approximately 0932 hrs., S#1 and Harvey entered Brown's unlocked Jeep Cherokee that was sitting in the driveway of Brown's residence. Brown's girlfriend, Sabina Hodges, was inside the residence and heard the Jeep's engine start up. Hodges ran outisde and into the driveway. Hodges saw S#1 in the drivers seat and Harvey in the front passenger seat. Hodges slapped the hood of the Jeep as S#1 backed the Jeep out of the driveway. S#1 and Harvey drove off E/B on Toyon Ave. Hodges immediately went back into her residence and called 911. Shascom dispatched deputies and issued a BOLO to local jurisdictions.

S#1 and Harvey passed Sheriff's Service Officer Steve Corella at a temporary CHP inspection station on Pine Grove Ave. Officer Corella followed the stolen Jeep from a distance in an unmarked Sheriff's Office vehicle. S#1 turned off of Pine Grove Ave. and drove S/B on Cascade Blvd. S#1 drove off the roadway as he made a right turn onto Mulberry St. S#1 drove into the the parking lot of 3100 Cascade Blvd, See Clear Pools, and through a chain-link gate. S#1 drove back onto Mulberry St. and drove to West St. S#1 made a right turn onto West St. and drove off the Westside of the roadway. S#1 stopped the Jeep in the side yard next to 3002 West St. Officer Corella arrived at the scene as S#1 and Harvey were running from the Jeep. Officer Corella gave a description of the suspects over the radio. Additional Sheriff's Deputies responded to the scene and set up a perimeter. A short time later, S#1 was located running S/B through the backyards of residences on West St. Deputy Thompson took S#1 into custody. Harvey was later located behind bushes on West St by neighbors. Harvey fled on foot and was located and arrested by Sgt. Gilman, in a backyard of a residence on Trinity St.

S#1 was booked into Juvenile Hall for 10851VC, 182PC and 23152VC. Harvey was booked into the Shasta County Jail for 10851VC, 182(a)(1)PC and 777 W & I.

LOCATION: Upper Sacramento River Canyon, near Soda Creek

Southern Pacific Railroad conductor advised there were several subjects on rafts yelling for help, when they were passing through the area. Shasta County Sheriff's Deputies, and the CHP Helicopter, responded to the area. CHP resported there were eight people stranded on the east side of the river near Soda Creek. Southern Pacific stopped all traffic for the safety of everyone. The CHP Helicopter airlifted seven adults and one, seven year old boy to safety. There were no injuries. The rescue effort was coordinated by Deputy David Eoff.

SUSPECT(S):Cody William Cramer, 30 yrs.

On 4/29/08 at approximately 0900 hrs., Sheriff's Investigators, Redding Police Investigators and California Highway Patrol Officers executed a search warrant at a residence on Knighton Rd. Investigators were looking for copper wire stolen from J.F. Shea Construction's rock quarry off Gravel Plant Road between April 18-21. Investigators found evidence of the theft and a stolen utility trailer.

As a result of the Knighton Road search warrant, investigators went to a second location on Cedars Road. This residence was the home of Cody Cramer. Cramer was on probation and had a warrant for his arrest. At the Cedars Road address, investigators found more evidence of copper wire thefts and evidence related to the stolen trailer found at the Knighton Road address.

Cramer was taken into custody for the warrant and probation violation. The case is continuing and will be forwarded to the District Attorney.

On 4/28/08, members from the Shasta County Sheriff's Office conducted a "Minor Decoy" operation in the City of Shasta Lake and the unicorporated area of Shasta County. The operations are funded through a grant from ABC. During this operation 11 businesses were visited.

Two subjects were cited for selling alcohol to the minor decoy. One employee worked at Sportsman Express Shell, the other for College Knights Mini-Mart.

One subject was arrested for purchasing alcohol for a minor, during a "shoulder tap" conducted during this operation. In addition his passenger was arrested for outstanding Felony Warrants and booked into the jail.

The Shasta County Sheriff's Office would like to thank the Califonria Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control for funding this program and the local ABC licensed businesses that did refuse to sell to the "minor decoy".

Those businesses that did not sell were: Sonny's Market, The Fishin Hole, Drive in Market, Country Market, KC's Corner Mart, Rancho Market, Fast Track Food and Fuel, Kent's Meats, and the Columbia Store.

On 4/21/08 at approximately 1715 hrs., the Coroner's Office was notified of a deceased male subject who had been involved in a boating accident on the Sacramento River at the North St. Bridge in Anderson. The decedent was identified as Daniel Scott McMillan of San Jose. A post mortem examiniation is scheduled for 4/22/08.

On April 15, 2008, deputies received a report of a traffic collision involving a bicyclist and a pickup truck at the intersection of Vallecito St. and Hardenbrook Ave. Upon arrival medical staff began treating an injured 10 yr. old male juvenile who was apparently riding his bicycle northbound on Hardenbrook into cross traffic on Vallecito and was struck by a pickup truck traveling westbound on Vallecito. The driver, a 17 yr. old male, was not able to avoid the collision. The bicyclist was transported to Mercy Medical Center and was treated for a laceration and a fractured right leg and is listed in stable condition. Deputies determined the 10 yr. old bicyclist to be at fault for failing to stop for a stop sign and failing to yield the right-of-way to an approaching vehicle. The 10 yr. old male was also not wearing a bicycle helmet. The driver did not commit any vehicle code violations. Sheriff's deputies are continuing their traffic accident investigation.

Sheriff's investigators and Evidence Lab personnel returned to the Pleasant Court address today to continue their investigation into the death of two adult males found in the residence. Crime scene personnel completed their examination of the residence at approximately 1600 hrs. Efforts were made by investigators to identify witnesses who may have last seen the victims or know information related to this investigation. On 4/4/08 at approximately 1652 hrs., the Sheriff's Office personnel received a report of two subjects deceased in a residence at 4263 Pleasant Court, Cottonwood. Sheriff's deputies responded and discovered two adult males deceased in the residence. They are believed to be the occupants.

Evidence technicians and investigators were on scene late Friday 4/4/08 and will return on 4/5/08. The investigation is continuing.

VICTIM: Intermountain Christian Academy
SUSPECT: Wayne Arthur Parnell

On 3/25/08 at approximately 0112 hrs., Shascom advised Burney Deputies of an interior motion alarm activation at the Intermountain Christian Academy. Upon arrival, Deputies saw a caucasian male subject enter his truck and flee from the location. A short vehicle pursuit ensued for approximately 1.25 miles until reaching a dead end road. The subject was then taken into custody and identified as being Arthur Wayne Parnell.

Further investigation of the school revealed Parnell had forced entry into 3 separate buildings (Burglary x 3), and destroying a lock/hasp to a pump house (Vandalism). Parnell's vehicle contained plumbing supplies with a receipt to the school. Several bags containing items appeared to be left outside of the school as well.

During interrogation of Parnell, Parnell confessed to the Burglary and Pursuit to Deputies. Parnell was arrested and booked at the Shasta County Main Jail in Redding where he is being held on $10,000,00 bail. Parnell's appearance in Shasta County Superior Court is set for 4/25/08.

On 3/21/08, members from the Shasta County Sheriff's Office conducted a "Minor Decoy" operation in the City of Anderson and the unicorporated area of Shasta County. The operations are funded through a grant from ABC. During this operation 15 businesses were visited.

On person was arrested for selling alcohol to a minor. Cited and released. The business was Mike's Food and Fuel.

The following businesses refused to sell to the minor decoy:

California Expresso Cafe, 7-11, Mary's Pizza, Safeway, Rite-Aid, Walmart, Vaughn's, Midway Tower Mart's, Sarco Mini-Mart, TA Travel Center, Patty's Riverland Market, and Duffy's Liquor.

SUSPECT: Jess David Woods 56 yrs., Whitmore and Indiana

On 3/20/08 The Shasta County Sheriff's Office SWAT Team and the United States Marshal's Office served an Indiana no bail Murder arrest warrant on Jess Woods 56 yrs., at his Whitmore residence. At the time of Woods arrest, he was armed with a loaded 45 caliber handgun. During the subsequent search of his residence, numerous weapons including a loaded .223 assault rifle were found, along with several marijuana plants. Woods was booked into the Shasta County Jail awaiting extradition to Indiana and D.A. review on fresh weapon and drug charges.

On 3/20/08 at approximately 0800 hrs., the Shasta County Sheriff's Detectives along with the Redding Police Department Investigators, served a search warrant at the above listed location. During the search stolen property was found related to a residential burglary that was interrupted by family members returning home. That burglary occurred off Swasey Dr., in Shasta County.

During the investigation a composite sketch was made with information provided by the victims. A male and female suspect were later identified as the responsible's for the burglary. Jason Lee Moore was identified as the suspect responsible for the burglary as well as a female juvenile whose name cannot be relased due to her age.

No further information is available at this time as the investigation is ongoing.

On 3/16/08 at approximately 1315 hrs., deputies from the Shasta County Sheriff's Office responded to an address on Gas Point Rd., Cottonwood, regarding a suicidal female with a firearm.

Upon arrival, the female subject opened the door and showed deputies she had a firearm, but she refused to come out. She then closed the door as well as the drapes.

Due to the risk of public safety, three nearby elementary schools were locked down and Gas Point Rd., was closed at Rhonda Rd. and Frances St.

After several minutes, the female subject came back out with the handgun and pulled the trigger several times, but the weapon was either misfiring or was unloaded. It was later determined the weapon had seven live rounds, but the firearm malfunctioned and did not fire.

The female subject went back inside the residence and returned with a rifle. She placed tthe rifle on the ground and responded to verbal commands by deputies. She was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital.

On 3/16/08 at approximately 1953 hrs., Shasta County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to 11412 Niagarra Street in French Gulch regarding a possible robbery that was in progress. It was reported that two male subjects had forced entry into the victim's home, destroyed property and was demanding money. The victim's reported they were held at knifepoint during the incident and the suspect's continued to demand money. Upon deputies arrival they made contact with the suspects, Daniel Clark and a male juvenile who were exiting the residence with several items of the victim's property in their possession. Both suspects were taken into custody without further incident. Clark was booked into the Shasta County Jail while the juvenile was booked into Juvenile Hall. There are no further suspects in this case and the victims received only minor injuries during the incident. Additional charges are pending as the investigation continues.

On 3/7/08 at approximately 0930 hrs., an arrest warrant and search warrant were executed at a mobile home in the Riverland Mobile Home Park in Anderson. The suspect Michael Langston was taken into custody on a warrant charging him with a total of 44 counts of 269(A)(1) PC, 288(A)PC, 269(A)(4)PC, 288.2(A)PC and 11361 H&S. Bail total of $500,000.00. Sheriff's investigators and identification technicians searched Langston's residence in relation to this case. The investigation is still continuing.

On 2/28/08 Deputies were dispatched to a traffic collision at the intersection of Mussel Shoals Ave. and Front St. in the City of Shasta Lake. Upon arrival Deputies contacted Townsend and Alward. Townsend was riding her bicycle westbound on Front Street and failed to stop for the stop sign at the entrance to Mussel Shoals Ave. Townsend then struck a Dodge pickup being driven by Chad Alward. Townsend was not wearing a helmet.

Townsend was transported to Mercy Medical Center in Redding for injuries to both legs and her left arm. The investigation is continuing.

SUSPECT: 3 Unknown white males 18-25 yrs.

On 2/9/2008 in the area of Sierra Pacific Industries in the City of Shasta Lake a North State Secrutiy Guard Justin Ratliff, was confronted by three unknown subjects he believed were trespassing on Sierra Pacific Industries property. The three unknown subjects verbally forced Ratliff to give them his badge, radio and his belt. The unknown subjects also took an unknown amount of cash from his wallet. The unknown suspects then fled the area in an unknown direction, prior to deputies arrival. Ratliff stated one of the suspects was wearing a red and white vertical stripped long sleeve shirt and dark jeans the other two were wearing dark clothing no further description was provided by Ratliff. No harm came to Ratliff during this incident.

Case pending further indentification of the three unknown subjects.

On February 2, 2008 at approximately 1550 hrs. Shasta County Sheriff Deputies responded to the victim of a shooting at a mobile home on Wild Bill Way in Olinda, CA. Upon arrival deputies began resuscitation efforts on the victim who was identified as Rusty Hayward, age 14 yrs. Hayward was transported by ambulance to Mercy Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The person responsible was a 13 year old male associate of Hayward's. The shooting occurred at the associate's residence. The shooting was witnessed by another teenager.

The shooting is presently under investigation. Crime scene personnel and investigators are presently at the scene of the shooting conducting their investigation.

SUSPECT: Eric Bosworth, WMA, DOB: 6/12/74, 6'1", 300 lbs, Bro/Blu

On February 1, 2008 at approximately 1346 hrs., deputies responded to an incident in which shots were fired. With assistance of CHP helicopter H-16, deputies located and arrested suspect Bosworth on Whitmore Rd. He was arrested for 12021 PC Weapon Violation, 11359 H&S Possession of Marijuana for Sales and additional weapons charges.

CRIME / INCIDENT: Minor Decoy Operation
LOCATION: Unincorporated Shasta County and the Intermountain Area

On 2/1/08, members from the Shasta County Sheriff's Office conducted a "Minor Decoy" operation in the City of Shasta Lake and the unicorporated areas of Shasta County. The operations are funded through a grant from ABC. During this operation 15 businesses were visited.

One business was cited for selling alcohol to the minor decoy. The business was the Hat Creek Store.

The Shasta County Sheriff's Office would like to thank the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control for funding this program and the local ABC licensed businesses that did refuse to sell to the minor "decoy".

The listed businesses did not sell to the minor decoy: Black Butte Market, Reeds Market, Shingletown Store, Old Station Chevron, McArthur Mini Mart, Ray's Market, Sportsman Liquors, Corner Post, Rocky Ledge Shell, Jmart, Rite Aid, Burney Market, Safeway and the Quick Mart.

On 2/1/08, at approximately 2046 hrs., the Coroner's Office was notified of a death at 6852 Hidden Ranch Rd., in Anderson, Release of the decedent's name is pending next of kin notification and the postmortem examination is set for Tuesday morning.

SUSPECT: Jarred Lee Morely, WMA, 28 yrs.

On 1/27/08 members fromt he Shasta County Sheriff's Department and the Shasta County Probation Department conducted a Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement Operation.

During this operation 29 residences were visited and 16 Probation searches conducted. All of the subjects have been convicted of a sex offense, were 290 P.C. registrants, or had warrants related to sex offenses.

Incident to one of the probation searches, Jarred Lee Morely was arrested for possession of Marijuana for sale and violation of his probation.

The funding for this program was received from OES, Office of Emergency Services.

LOCATION: 8499 Simmons Rd., Redding
VICTIM: Arnold Sargent

On 1/23/2008 at approximately 2230 hrs., Deputies responded to the area of 8499 Simmons Rd., on a report of a missing person, identified as Arnold Sargent, age 93. Sargent, who is diagnosed with Alzheimer's was believed to have left his residence on foot. Deputies initially checked around the residence with negative results.

On 1/24/08, at approximately 0130 hrs., Deputies with the Shasta County Sheriff's Search and Rescue Overhead Team along with Search and Rescue Volunteers responded to the scene.

At 0814 hrs., Search and Rescue trackers located Sargent approximately one half to three quarters of a mile southwest of his residence. Sargent was found conscious but possibly suffering from hypothermia. He was transported by an LSU to Mercy Medical Center for treatment.

CRIME / INCIDENT: Discharge firearm & Resisting Arrest
LOCATION: 5392 Happy Valley Rd., #5
VICTIM: Residents in the trailer park
SUSPECT: Corey Merrill

On 1/22/2008 at approximately 2015 hrs.,, Deputies from the Shasta County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to 5392 Happy Valley Rd., #5, the Olinda Mobile Home Park regarding a disturbance. It was reported that Corey Merrill was inside his residence at space #5 and was in possession of a shotgun. While Deputies were responding a witness said Merrill was now discharging the shotgun from inside the home and several shots were heard.

Upon Deputies arrival Merrill was seen by himself inside the trailer carrying the shotgun and a pistol. A hostage negotiator, with the Sheriff's Office, was at scene and attempted to communicate with Merrill over a public address system. Merrill acknowledged the Sheriff's Office presence, however refused to come out of the residence. This continued until Merrill exited the trailer carrying the shotgun and paced in front of the location until the negotiator convinced Merrill to put down the firearm. Merrill was subsequently taken into custody without further incident and booked into the Shasta County Jail.

CRIME / INCIDENT: Missing Person at Risk
LOCATION: 2394 Waldon Ave. Shasta Lake
VICTIM: Alice Clark

On 1/20/2008 at apporximately 1825 hrs., John Sears, of Shasta Lake, called to report his mother-in-law, Alice Clark, 75 had wandered away from their home at 2394 Walton Ave. Shasta Lake, between the hours of 1630-1730 hrs. Deputies were altered of Clark's disappearance and was told she suffered from dementia. Deputies along with a California Highway Patrol helicopter searched the City of Shasta Lake for Clark. Neighbors and Shasta Lake Fire personnel helped comb the area for Clark's wherebouts. Shascom began a Dialogic Communicator (reverse-dialed message of the incident to area residents) within several hours of the reported incident. At approximately 2035 hrs., Deputies were advised that two citizens located Alice Clark south of the Knauf Fiberglass property. Clark had suffered an injury to her left knee and shoulder after falling down. Otherwise Clark was in good health. The two citizens, identified as Jeremy Brown 19, and his neighbor, George Conrad, both of Shasta Lake, located Clark on a dirt road approximately 1/10 of a mile south of Ashby Rd. Brown and Conrad were both lauded for their efforts in assisting law enforcement and fire personnel in locating Clark. Relatives of Clark were given information to assist them with the Shasta County Sheriff's Office sponsored "Project Lifesaver" program, which allows family members to help locate medically challenged people when they are lost.

LOCATION: 3324 St. Omer St. #26 Cottonwood
VICTIM: Kurtis Joseph Mattingly

On 1/20/2008 at approximately 2100 hrs., Shasta County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to an altercation at 3324 St. Omer St. #26 in Cottonwood Ca. During a physical altercation an unknown male subject stabbed Kurtis Joseph Mattingly several times in the back. Mattingly was transported to Mercy Medical Center where he is listed in guarded/stable condition. The investigation is ongoing for identifying and locating the male suspect.

CRIME / INCIDENT: Assault with a Deadly Weapon
LOCATION: 12107 Randolph Rd., Redding
VICTIM: Keith McDonald & Kathryn Kehm
SUSPECT: James Michael Davis

On 1/1/2008 at approximately 0315 hrs., James Davis was in an altercation with his roommate, Keith McDonald at their home on Randolph Rd. in Redding. The altercation turned physical at which time Davis produced a handgun and threatened to shoot McDonald. Davis also threatened to shoot another roommate and a neighbor during the incident. 911 was called from the home and Deputies from the Shasta County Sheriff's Office responded to the call. Upon Deputies arrival at the residence Davis fired one shot from a shotgun within the home out a back window of the residence toward a neighbor's backyard striking an unoccupied vehicle.

A short time later Davis came outside and was taken into custody without further incident. No one was injured during the incident and Davis was later booked into the Shasta County Jail.

VICTIM: Vera Romero
SUSPECT(S): Armando Garcia, HMA, Barbara Garcia, HFA, Robert Garcia, HMA

On 12/30/07 at approximately 1335 hrs., Deputy Eric Magrini contacted two males, identified as Robert Garcia and Armando Garcia parked on the side of the roadway near Palm Ave. in Happy Valley. During the investigation, Armando Garcia was found to have property belonging to the victim. Deputies checked Romero's residence on Monte Vista and discovered forced entry was made into the residence and several items missing. Romero was not at home during the incident, but was able to respond to the scene and provide a list of items taken from her residence. A female, identified as Barbara Garcia was found on foot in the area. Barbara Garcia was found to have property belonging to Romero in her possession. Deputies searched a nearby Olive Orchard and found all the items taken from the Romero residence. Armando and Barbara Garcia were booked into the Shasta County Jail on the above charges. Robert Garcia was interviewed and released on scene pending further investigation.

On December 27, 2007, Deputies from the Burney Station responded to a report of a burglary at the Shell Station in Johnson Park, just east of Burney. The attendant of the business reported three subjects in a black Jeep had stole liquor from the store and fled in the listed vehicle. At 0500 hrs., one of the suspects in the Shell burglary turned himself in at the Burney Station and admitted to not only the Shell burglary, but also the prior thefts and vandalisms from Mt. Burney Coffee, Burney High School, and a residence under construction on Fir Street in Burney. The 17 yr. old was cited and released due to medical complications.

On December 22, 2007, at approximately 1843 hrs., a pedestrian vs. auto accident was reported on I-5 just south of the N/B off ramp to Knighton Rd. The decedent was identified as Ryan Christopher Meeks of Cottonwood. A post mortem exam is tentatively set for December 26, 2007.

On December 21, 2007 members from the Shasta County Sheriff's Office conducted a "Minor Decoy" operation in the City of Shasta Lake and the unicorporated areas of Shasta County. The operations are funded through a grant from ABC. During this operation 18 businesses were visited.

Five businesses were cited for selling alcohol to the minor decoy. The businesses were Tops Mini Mart in Palo Cedro, Gas Point Market in Cottonwood, Kaybee Gas in Palo Cedro, In and Out Market in Palo Cedro, and Sentry Market in the City of Shasta Lake.

In addition a "Shoulder tap" operation was conducted. 22 people were approached by the decoy and asked to purchase alcohol. 1 person was cited and released for purchasing alcohol for a minor.

The Shasta County Sheriff's Office is warning citizens of a new scam that has surfaced in the Shasta County area. Several citizens have reported receiving an email fromt he Internal Revenue Service stating they are owed a refund, and asking them to click on a link that takes them to a I.R.S. website to fill out a form. The link leads to a fake I.R.S. website. The website asks the person for their Social Security number, Visa or MasterCard number, and P.I.N. number. Once this information is entered and sent, the citizen has compromised their credit card/bank account. Any citizen who receives a similar email is encouraged to forward it to investigators at www.phishing@irs.gov. For further information refer to the Internal Revenue Service at www.irs.gov.

SUSPECT(S): George William Barnes, 67 yrs.

On 12/12/07 at approximately 2000 hrs., deputies were dispatched to 5710 Balls Ferry Rd. in Anderson, Ca., regarding a male subject threatening confidential victim with a handgun. Deputies arrived and learned that George Barnes was involved in an argument with confidential victim at their residence at 5710 Balls Ferry Rd. During the argument Barnes produced a large caliber handgun, pointed it at the confidential victim and said he was going to kill the victim, their dog, and then himself. Barnes was taken into custody with further incident. Barnes was transported and booked into the Shasta County Jail for Attempted Homicide.

LOCATION: Craftsman Ave @ Woodley Ave

SUSPECT(S): David Alan Ward & Michael Edward Ahumada

On 12/12/07 at approximately 1316 hrs., deputies from the Shasta County Sheriff's Office attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a vehicle being operated by Ward. The vehicle failed to stop for emergency vehicles and fled on populated streets withion the City of Shasta Lake. Ward violated numerous traffic controls and drove the vehicle in a manner which put citizens in danger. The vehicle eventually drove along a dirt road adjacent to the railroad tracks running north towards Mountain Gate when a foot pursuit ensured. Ahumada was taken into custody immediately and found to be a wanted Parole Violator in possession of narcotics and drug paraphernalia. Ward was later arrested hiding in the brush with the assistance of Redding Police Department K-9 "Carr" and CHP helicopter H-14. Ward was arrested for felong evading along with (5) oustanding misdemeanor warrants. Both were transported and booked into the Shasta County Mail Jail.

CRIME / INCIDENT: Trapped Drift Boat
LOCATION: Caldwell Park

On 12/3/07 Sheriff's Department Boating and Safety Unit received a telephone call regarding a drift boat that was pinned against the A.C.I.D. dam. The owner related that the boat became untied from its moorage and had drifted down river sometime during the night. The vessel is partially submerged against the dam wall with its bow out of the water. Due to the dangerous area where the boat has rested and the hydraulics of the water, the owner was advised not to retrieve his vessel.

The Shasta County Sheriff's Office Work Release Program is now taking applications for its 11th annual Christmas Bicycle Giveaway. The Sheriff's Office refurbishes bicycles for those who would like to give a bicycle to their children and cannot afford one. The Sheriff's Office hopes to give away 100 used and refurbished bicycles this year.

Applications can be picked up for a limited time at the Work Release Office on Veterans Lane in Redding. Parents are encouraged to come to the Work Release Office and review with staff the criteria for application. The Bicycle Giveaway will be held Friday December 21, 2007, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. The Injury Prevention Coalition of Shasta County will be at this event to fit your child with a helmet, and we are hoping to have a visit from Santa.

The Shasta County Sheriff's Office would like to thank North State Recycling, The Chain Gang Bike Shop, Redding Police Department, Anderson Police Department, Shasta County Public Health and the citizen of Shasta County who have donated to the Shasta County Sheriff's Office Bicycle Program throughout the year.

CRIME / INCIDENT: Assault with a deadly weapon & Battery w/serious injury
LOCATION: Whaley Dr. & Sonoma St. Johnson Park
VICTIM: 14 yr. old male
SUSPECT(S): 14 yr. old male

The Shasta County Sheriff's Office repsonded to an area near the intersection of Whaley Dr. and Sonoma St., in Johnson Park in regards to a juvenile male found unconscious. Sheriff's deputies investigated the incident and discovered the juvenile victim was assaulted by another juvenile male just shortly after each juvenile got off of a school bus.

The victim was transported to Mayers Memorial Hospital in Fall River Mills for injuries he received during the incident. The suspect ws located a short time later at a reisidence on St. Helena St., in Johnson Park. The juvenile suspect was arrested without incident.

The juvenile victim is currently at Mayers Memorial Hospital and will be there overnight for observation due to receiving a fractured neck from the assault.

The juvenile suspect was transported to the Shasta County Juvenile Hall where he was booked on the above listed charges.

LOCATION: Eskimo Hill Area Hwy 44
VICTIM: Scott Washington 25 yrs. and Jenna Sybert 23 yrs.

On 12/1/2007 at 1440 hrs., the above subjects reported they were lost approximately 5-6 miles north of Highway 44 in a heavily wooded area. Subjects were able to use a cell phone and advise of their general location. Officers from the Shasta County Sheriff's Office, California Highway Patrol Helicopter H-16, Lassen National Park Rangers as well as Shascom assisted in locating the subjects at approximately 1625 hrs. Subjects were located and transported back to their vehicle.

VICTIM: 14 yr. old female
SUSPECT(S): Joshua Leroy Anderson

On 11/29/07 Deputies from the Burney Station, received a tip that a 29 yr. old adult male, Joshua Anderson was attempting to entice underage female juveniles into having sex with him. Reports were received the suspect was providing alcohol to a 14 yr old female in an attempt to convice her into having sex. Detective StClair was able to put the case together and locate Anderson before he was able to victimize the victim. Evidence collected when Anderson was arrested indicated he had every intention to carry out his plan to molest the victim.

The suspect Joshua Anderson was arrested at 1830 hrs., for a parole violation and attempted child molest. Anderson was booked into the Shasta County Jail.

CRIME / INCIDENT: Possession Marijuana for Sale, Sale/Transport Marijuana, Possession of over 28.5 ounces and Possession of Marijuana while driving
LOCATION: Starlight Pines, Shingletown
VICTIM: State of California
SUSPECT(S): Kimberly Jennice Fancher, 33 yrs.

On 11/18/07, Deputy MacGregor of the Shasta County Sheriff's Office conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Starlight Pines Rd., in Shingletown, CA. for a vehicle code violation. During the stop a strong odor of marijuana was detected emitting from inside the vehicle and from the driver, identified as Kimberly Fancher. A search of the vehicle resulted in locating approximately thirteen pounds of processed marijuana.

Fancher was arrested for the above listed charges and booked into the Shasta County Jail without incident.

SUSPECT(S): Unknown male, 6', 200 lbs, navy blu ski mask, blu ski jacket, orange ski goggles, blu jeans, and gry gloves

On 11/14/07 at approximately 1925 hrs., Shasta County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the report of an armed robbery at the Drive-In Market on Hill Blvd. in the City of Shasta Lake. Deputies were advised that a male fitting the above description had brandished a large knife at the clerk and obtained an undisclosed amount of cash. The subject left the area on foot, going eastbound on Pine Ave. Deputies and K-9 Max searched the surrounding area but were unable to locate the subject.

The incident is still under investigation.

SUSPECT: WM, 5"7" 160 lbs, LSW grey zippered sweatshirt w/hood, blk beanie, & shorts w/a white stripe, armed w/blk handgun

On 11/8/07 at approximately 2103 hrs., Deputies from the Shasta County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a report of an armed robbery which had just occurred at Sonny's Market in Shasta Lake City. When Deputies arrived the victims reported being robbed at gunpoint by an unknown white male outside the business as they were closing. The suspect demanded money from the victims and then fled on foot. Deputies conducted an area search with the assistance of CHP helicopter, however were unable to locate the suspect.

CRIME / INCIDENT: Evade Police Officer & other charges
LOCATION: Oak St. @ Peachtree Lane
VICTIM: State of California
SUSPECT(S): Barry Fourzon and Paul Shell

On 10/31/07 at approximately 1417 hrs.,deputies with the Shasta County Sheriff's Office observed Barry Fourzon operating a vehicle in the area of Oak St. at Peachtree Ln. in Happy Valley. Deputies identified Fourzon as a subject wanted for an outstanding parole violation. Deputies then attempted to conduct a traffic stop at which time the vehicle sped at a high rate of speed in an attempt to evade pursuing officers.

Fourzon continued north on Oak St., violating numerous vehicle code violation until he collided with a tree after failing to negotiate the turn on to China Gulch Rd. Fourzon fled the vehicle on foot toward the ravine north of China Gulch. Deputies pursued Fourzon on foot and attempted to contain him in the wooded area. A CHP helicopter responded along with Shasta County Sheriff's Office canine "Laura" to assist with locating Fourzon. Canine "Lara" located the suspect in heavy brush and berry vines near Clear Creek as he tried to conceal himself.

Fourzon was taken into custody and booked into the Shasta County Jail for the above listed violations. Deputies also arrrested Paul Shell for a parole violation at the accident scene after riding as a front seat passenger in the fleeing vehicle.

LOCATION: Shasta County Jail
VICTIM: Ryan Blake James, 21 yrs.

Ryan James, an inmate at the Shasta County Jail collapsed in the day room of his housing unit at approximately 2112 hrs., on October 23, 2007. Within minutes he was not breathing and resuscitation efforts were conducted by jail personnel and medical staff. James was transported to Mercy Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The incident was witnessed by a correction officer who was standing near James when he collapsed. James was assigned to an inmate worker housing unit and had been in custody since September 21, 2007.

The Shasta County Sheriff's Major Crimes Unit responded to assist in the investigation. It does not appear James was the victim of an assault or foul play at this point. An autopsy will be conducted October 25, 2007.

LOCATION: 2 miles East of Bella Vista and 1.5 miles N. of 299 E.
VICTIM: Unknown

On 10/20/07 residents of Shasta County were quail hunting on their property at the above listed location. These hunters located what they believed to be human skeletal remains. The hunters contacted Deputies and Detectives of the Shasta County Sheriff's Office. The human skeletal remains were collected by the Shasta County Coroner's Office. The remains will be compared to all missing persons reports for possible identification. At this time there is no evidence of foul play. The case is pending further investigation or identification through dental records.

The Shasta County Sheriff's Office is pleased to have the opportunity to host a job fair event at the Mt. Shasta Mall on Saturday, October 20, 2007 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The Sheriff Office provides many different opportunities and assignments to it's employees. Many of these assignments will be on display, along with the personnel associated with them. Some examples of resources provided by the Sheriff's Office, and on display this Saturday, will be Search and Rescue, Citizen's Patrol, Neighborhood Watch, Boating Safety, and Operations of Emergency Services. Also on display will be specialized equipment utilized by the Sheriff's Office including the new Rigid Hull boat, Search and Rescue sport utility vehicles, the Snow Cat, and many more.

The Sheriff's Office is currently taking applications for a number of positions including Deputy Sheriff/Lateral, Correctional Officer, Legal Process Clerk, Sheriff Service Officer, and Cadet. LOCATION: Burney Elementary School

On 9/25/2007 at 1245 hrs., Shasta County Sheriff's Deputies responded to Burney Elementary School to the report of juveniles locating live ammunition on the playground. While enroute, deputies were advised that one of the juveniles had thrown one of the rounds on the asphalt playground, causing it to go off. One of the four juveniles involved, ages eight to nine years old, was struck in the arm by a shell casing, causing a minor scratch to his arm. Although medical was on scene, the injured student declined medical attention. Deputies cleared the school yard and searched for additional ammunition, finding a total of seven live rounds. An investigation is continuing to ascertain how the live rounds ended up on the school grounds.

On 9/21/07, at approximately 2215 hrs., a fatal vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of Oak St. and Palm Ave. The driver of the vehicle died on scene and the passenger was transported to the ER. A postmortem examination is set for Monday. Release of the decedent's identity is being held until family can be notified.

The idenity of the decedent is being withheld until family has beeen notified.

The Shasta County Sheriff's Office Marijuana Eradication Team with the assistance from the US Drug Enforcement Administration, the Shasta County Sheriff's Office SWAT, Calfiornia DOJ, CAMP, National Park Service, Department of Fish and Game and the Bureau of Land Management conducted "Operation Green Acres", targeting large marijuana cultivation sites. The marijuana sites had been located during surveilance conducted over the past two months.

A total of 29,686 marijuana plants were eradicated, with a total weight of approximately 10,000 pounds. The marijuana had an estimated street value of $76,420,000. A large number of the marijuana sites were in the process of being harvested by the suspects. A total of five pounds of prcessed marijuana was seized with a street value of $20,000. Two suspects were arrested and three others were detained for investigation, with possible criminal charges still to come.

Operation Green Acres was possible due to grant funding from the US Drug Enforcement Administration.

On 9/10/07 at approximately 1530 hrs., Deputies were dispatched to a stabbing which just occurred at 12018 Theresa Ln. Redding. Upon arrival Deputies learned that the two male subjects involved had left prior to our arrival and that the victim was currently at Shasta Regional Medical Center. Upon further investigation Deputies were advised that the victim and suspect were involved in a physical altercation. During the physical altercation the suspect took out a knife and stabbed the victim twice. Neighter wounds were life threatening and the victim is currently being treated at the hospital. At the time of this press release this incident is still being investigated and further information will follow.

On 8/31/07 at approximately 1515 hrs., SCSO Boating Safety unit received a report of a possible drowning at Shasta Lake near Turntable Bay.

Units of the Boating Safety office responded, confirmed the location and secured the scene.

Investigation determined a 49 year old male and 15 year old daughter were traveling southbound on I-5 from Washington.

The 49 year old male reported being hot and wanted to swim in the lake to cool off. As both male and daughter were swimming, daughter reported her dad called out for help and went under water.

No drugs or alcohol are suspected.

On 8/30/07 at approximately 1130 hrs., California Multi-Jurisdictional Methamphetamine Enforcement Team (Cal-MMET), a task force composed of officers and deputies from Shasta, Butte and Tehama County Sheriff's, the Redding Police Department along with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and United States Postal Inspectors conducted a narcotics search warrant at 1825 Roanoke Ave., #A in Redding, California. One subject was arrested on narcotic charges of 11377 H&S, 11378 H&S along with an outstanding warrant out of Tehama County and booked into the Shasta County Jail. Nine pounds of opium (approximate street value $200,000) was seized from the above location.

SUSPECT: Francisco Sanchez

On 8/29/07, the Shasta County Sheriff's Office Marijuana Eradication Team, with assistance from members of the Shasta County Sheriff's SWAT Team, National Park Service, DEA, and the Department of Fish & Game, conducted a marijuana raid in the area of Crystal Creek Road, in Shasta County.

Two suspects were located in the area of the grow site. Both suspects were Hispanic male adults.

The first suspect, Francisco Sanchez, of Michoacan, Mexico, was armed with a .45 caliber handgun. Sanchez was arrested and will be held on federal chages for Title 21 United States Code Section 841(a1) - Manufacture cultivation of marijuana, and Tile 18 United States Code Section 922(g5) - Possession of firearm on U.S. land, being an alien.

The second suspect fled the scene, carrying a 12 - gauge shotgun. He is still at large.

A search of the garden camp revealed another loaded handgun.

A total of 6,428 marijuana plants were eradicated and destroyed from the cultivation site, with a street value of $25,712.000.

The cause of death was asphyxia due to mechanical compression of chest and abdomen. Other significant conditions were blunt force injuries.

On 8/28/07 at approximately 1530 hrs., Deputies from the Shasta County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a report of a distraught female reporting that her boyfriend had been run over by her brother. When Deputies arrived at the location they found a deceased male subject. The California Highway Patrol helicopter located suspect Paul Wall and he was detained without incident. Paul Wall consented to being interviewed by Detectives from the Shasta County Sheriff's Office. The Detectives also questioned female witness Kandy Ewing. During questioning witness Kandy Ewing Told Detectives that her brother Paul Wall deliberately ran over the victim causing his death. During questioning of Suspect Paul Wall he admitted to running over the victim, which ultimately led to the victim's death. Suspect Paul Wall was booked into the Shasta County Jail on an open count of murder.

On 8/28/07at approximately 1846 hrs., Shasta County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the listed address regarding a female having been run over by a car. When deputies arrived on scene, the suspect was taken into custody and medical personnel began treatment of the victim. It was later determined that the victim and suspect had been in an argument earlier in the day. The suspect returned to the residence and drove his full size truck into the back of the victim's small sedan, which was parked in front of the residence. The small sedan was pushed into the side of the residence. The victim had been kneeling in front of the sedan when it was struck and it subsequently ran over the top of her. The victim was taken to Mercy Medical Center for treatment. Suspect Bullert was arrested and booked into the Shasta County Jail on the listed charges. This case is still under investigation.

SUSPECT: Michael J. Rotta, Tracy R. Mcwilliams, Jeffrey L. Fritz & Lynette M. Demello

On August 7, 2007 the above listed subjects were arraigned in a Shasta County Superior Court on multiple counts of forgery, receiving stolen property and commercial burglary. During a 2 month long investigation Dectectives from the Shasta County Sheriff's Office along with the Redding Police Department, Califonria Highway Patrol and Tehama County Sheriff's Office conducted investigations into a series of residential burglaries, auto thefts and forgery's which occurred in the City of Redding , unincorporated area of Shasta County and Tehama County. During the early investigations a search warrant was issued and some stolen items related to the burglaries were recovered.

Continuing the investigations, the above listed suspects were also found to be buying goods from area businesses using stolen credit cards and stolen checks. They were also found to be driving several stolen vehicles related to the residential burglaries.

SUSPECT: Gary Lee Sargent, 56 yrs.

On August 7, 2007 at approximately 0344 hrs., Gary Sargent contacted 911 dispatchers requesting medical aid. During his conversation with dispatchers there were indications that he was acting somewhat paranoid. A Life Support Unit was dispatched and staged at the park due to Gary Sargent's converation on the phone with dispatchers. The Sheriff's Office responded at assist.

When officers approached and contacted Gary Sargent in his trailer, shots rang out from inside the trailer. Deputies secured the perimeter. The Sheriff's SWAT and Hostage Negotiation Teams were notified and the process of evacuating the park began. Appproximately 40 officers from the Sheriff's Office, Redding Police Department, Anderson Police Department, and Califonria Highway Patrol assisted. 40 residents of the trailer park were evacuated to the Anderson High School gym. The Red Cross and Redding Bus Authority assisted in the evacuation. Approximately 15-20 shots were fired over a three hour period by Gary Sargent. No shots were fired by law enforcement personnel.

At approximately 0805 hrs., the Sheriff's SWAT Team was successful in taking Gary Sargent into custody after approaching his residence in an armored rescue vehicle. Gary Sargent received cuts to his arms from breaking glass earlier in his residence. No chemical agents were used by SWAT Team members. The Balls Ferry trailer park has approximately 75 spaces and 60 occupants. Gary Sargent was transported to the hospital and will ultimately be booked on charges related to the shooting

SUSPECT(S): Melvin Greg Wolfin, & Steven Arthur Bautista

The Shasta County Sheriff's Office continued the investigation into the stabbing incident which occurred in the early morning hours of August 7, 2007.

Eli Lung was located and provided a statement in regards to the incident. Lung admitted to going to the Wolfin residence in an effort to locate his girlfriend. While at the residence Lung was confronted by Wolfin and Wolfin was allegedly sprayed with pepper spray. Lung left the residence. Wolfin retrieved a bat from his residence and a Steven A. Bautista who was also present at the Wolfin residence, grabbed a small hatchet.

Wolfin and Bautista chased after Lung and assaulted him at the intersection of Park Ave. and Tamarack Ave. Lung was struck several time by both Wolfin and Bautista with their weapons. Lung removed a knife and during the altercation, Wolfin received several stab wounds. Lung was then able to flee the area. Lung was injured during the incident, but has not sought medical attention.

The case will be forwarded to the Shasta County District Attorney's Office for review.

On August 7, 2007 at approximately 0450 hrs., the Shasta County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a stabbing victim at a residence on Tamarack Ave. in Burney.

Deputies responded to the scene and found Melvin Greg Wolfin at a residence with stab wounds to his upper torso area. Wolfin and two other male subjects were involved in a physical altercation near the intersection of Park and Tamarack Ave. The Sheriff's Office is currently looking for Eli Joshua Lung. Lung was reported to be involved in the altercation and is a person of interest at this time.

Wolfin was transported to Mercy Hospital in Redding where he was treated for his injuries. The extent of his injuries were not known at the time the press release was issued.

On August 2, 2007 at approximately 1400 hrs., Rebney, who is seeing impaired, left his residence with his dog, on foot. His neighbors reported him missing at 2200 hrs. Deputies from the Shasta County Sheriff's Office responded to the area and with the assistance of Rebney's neighbors, searched the area. At approximately 0045 hrs., Rebney was located 1/2 - 1 mile from his residence in a creek drainage off Rock Creek Rd.

Rebney was found in good health other than a few scrapes and bruises. Rebney declined medical.

On July 31, 2007 at approximately 0106 hrs., the Shasta County Sheriff's Office responded to the Cedarwood Apartments, in Fall River Mills, in regards to a female subject who was assaulted by a male suspect with a knife.

Upon arrival in the area, Sheriff's deputies located the 61 year old victim. The victim had lacerations to her neck and hand area. The victim was transported to Mayers Memorial Hospital to receive treatment for her injuries. The injuries were not life threatening.

The Sheriff's Office is currently looking for William Dale Croy in regards to this incident. Croy was seen in the area prior to tthe assault taking place. Croy is possibly driving a late 90's to 2000 model, Ford pickup white in color.

This incident is being investigated by the Shasta County Sheriff's Major Crimes Unit.

The Shasta County Sheriff's Office Boating Safety Unit wants to notify all citizen's who recreate on Shasta Lake of the following Low Water Safety Restrictions/Closures.

Current low water levels on Shasta Lake have created safety concerns, which need to be addressed. Protuding obstacles, Islands, narrowing of navigable channels, and increased vessel congestion has caused us to close/restrict certain areas on the lake. This will primarily affect the far ends of each arm and certain inlets on Shasta Lake.

Please relate the following information to the public as we foresee these closures going into affect between Aug 6th - 17th, 2007. All closures will become effective each year the water drops below the specified levels.

Safety on the water is our primary concern and these closures will enhance the enjoyment of all who recreate/visit Shasta Lake. Any questions should be directed to the Shasta County Sheriff's Office Boating Safety Unit.

Low Water Safety Restrictions:

The Shasta County Sheriff's Office Boating Safety Unit is ordering the following closures/operation restriction on Shasta Lake in the interest of public safety.

Our primary concern is for the enjoyment and safety of those who recreate on this waterway and have identified the following safety concerns during years with low water storage. These restrictions will be in place each year and will go into effect as water levels dictate.

Sacramento Arm:

Salt Creek Inlet - wil be closed to all towing activities when water levels reach 70'-80' down from the high water mark/line. A "No Ski" buoy will be located at the entrance to the inlet.

Gooseneck Cove/Little Sugarloaf Creek - a "No Ski" buoy will be placed closing the entire North end of the Sacramento Arm to all towing activities. This will be in affect when water levels reach 90'-100' down from the water mark/line.

Sugarloaf Marina/Antlers Marina - a "5 MPH" buoy will be placed just South of the Marinas and limit speed for the entire North end of the Sacramento Arm. "5 MPH" will be the maximum speed North for all vessel traffic when the water reaches 90'-100' down from the high water mark/line.

McCloud Arm:

Dekkas Rock - a "No Ski" buoy will be placed closing the entrie North end of the McCloud Arm to all towing activities above Dekkas Rock. This will be in affect when water levels reach 90'-100' down from the high water mark/line.

Squaw Creek Arm:

Chain Gang Gulch - a "No Ski/5 MPH" buoy will be placed closing all towing activity and requiring operation of 5 MPH North to the end of the Squaw Creek Arm. This will be in place when the water reaches 90'-100' down from the high water mark/line.

Pit River Arm:

Jones Valley Inlet - a "No Ski/5 MPH" buoy will be positioned at the entrance to the inlet closing this area to all towing activities and reduced speed. This will be in affect when the water reaches 90'-100' down from the high water mark/line.

VICTIM: Berry James Woolbert, 30 yrs.
SUSPECT: Michael Allen Avila, 22 yrs.

On July 28, 2007 at approximately 0430 hrs., deputies received a call to contact an assault victim at a local hospital. Deputies located Berry Woolbert in the emergency room. He had numerous deep lacerations on the left side of his face. Woolbert stated he was at Dry Creek Station sitting at a table when he was struck with a bar glass on top of his head.

Medical staff advised that Woolbert lost a lot of blood due to his temporal artery being cut during the assault. Medical staff also related that Woodbert was lucky he got his injury treated on time, or he could have died due to his blood loss.

Investigators from the Shasta County Sheriff's Office, Major Crimes Unit investigated the case and found that Michael Avila was the suspect in this case. Avila admitted his guilt. Avila was arrested on todays' date with the assistance of Shasta County deputies. Avila is currently being booked for the above listed charges.

On July 20, 2007 at approximately 1611 hrs., the Shasta County Sheriff's Major Crimes Investigators, along with the assistance of Anderson Police Department, arrested the above listed suspects.

Both Joshua Rasmussen and Brain Cole were arrested for the attempted murder of Kenneth Robinson.

CRIME / INCIDENT: Operation Alesia
LOCATION: Shasta County

On July 18, 2007, Operation Alesia targeted three gardens; one in the Lake Britton area and two in the Plantina area. The eradication teams pulled 19,369 plants from the three gardens. This brings the total plants eradicated during Operation Alesia to 242,620. Operation Alesia's plant count to date exceeds the number of marijuana plants eradicated by the Shasta County Sheriff's Office the entire previous year, which was 237,000.

During the Lake Britton area raid, investigators also located 200 lbs. of processed marijuana and one rifle.

Today at approximately 0330 hrs., U.S. Forest Service (USFS) Law Enforcement Officers detained eight undocumented Hispanic male adults on the east side of Shasta Lake in a national recreation area. USFS had previously located an illegal marijuana grow in the area and as part of the investigation was monitoring activity in the area. The undocumented Hispanic males were transported to Immigration and Customs, where an immigration hold was placed on them.

VICTIM: Kenneth Robinson, 54 yrs.
SUSPECT(S): 2 WMA, mid 20's

On 7/16/07 at approximately 1959 hrs., Deputies were dispatched to a subject who had been attacked by two white male adults and had been cut on his neck with a sharp object. When Deputies arrived and contacted Robinson he was uncooperative and refused to give Deputies any information regarding the incident. Robinson was transported to Mercy Hospital or a cut to the carotid artery in his neck and underwent surgery. Upon further investigation, Deputies learned that Robinson had been in an altercation with the two subjects and one of them had cut Robinson in the neck with an unknown sharp object. The case is under investigation with possible investigative leads to follow.

LOCATION: Shasta County

Today Operation Alesia targeted marijuana complexes in the Bear Mountain area of Shasta County. A total of 29,559 marijuana plants were eradicated today, bringing the total plants eradicated in Operation Alesia to 180,169. Seven garden were raided today, bringing to total gardens raided during Operation Alesia to 30 gardens.

A male Hispanic juvenile, thought to be from Michoacan, Mexico, was arrested by the raid team in one of the Bear Mountain gardens. Upon investigation, it appeared there was at least one Hispanic male adult also tending the garden, either prior to or upon officers entering the garden. The juvenile was transported to juvenile hall, where he was booked for cultivation of marijuana.

On 7/14/07 at 0608 hrs., Sheriff Deputies stopped a vehicle for vehicle code violations on I-5. K-9 Maximus alerted to the odor of narcotics. A search was conducted and eight pounds of processed high grade marijuana was located, with a street value of $45,000. Both suspects were arrested with a bail for $50,000 each.

Today was the fourth full day for Operation Alesia. Today's operation focused on three marijuana complexes located North of Shasta Lake, on Shasta/Trinity Forest Land. During today's operation alone, 60,821 marijuana plants were eradicated, bringing the total plants eradicated during Operations Alesia to 149,519. Irrigation tubing, pesticides, fertilizer, camping equipment, and trash left by the growers were found throughout the complexes.

SUSPECT: Aaron Gardner WMA & Juvenile 16 yrs.

On July 13, 2007, Aaron Gardner and a male juvenile were arrested for numerous thefts from vehicles. When contacted, each was on a stolen bicycle. Investigation revealed the two had canvassed an entire neighborhood and stole items from numerous unlocked vehicles. The two were also charged with burglarizing Central Valley High School and causing thousands of dollars of damage by vandalizing the school.

SUSPECT: Gabor Albert Szabo, 27 yrs.

The Shasta County Sheriff's Office received a report of a shooting at a residence on Dorvel Ln., in Happy Valley. Officers responded and discovered the body of a 54 year old male in the residence. He appeared to be the victim of a shooting. Taken into custody for the shooting was Gabor Szabo. Gabor Szabo, the victim, and Szabo's mother resided at the Dorvel Lane home. Gabor Szabo was transported to the Sheriff's Major Crimes Unit for questioning and then booked on an open count of murder at the Shasta County Jail.

Crime scene personnel from the Sheriff's Office are presently at the residence processing the scene.

VICTIM: Arnold Walter Sergeant

On 7/10/07 at approximately 2200 hrs., the Sheriff's Office was advised of a missing 92 year old man with Alzheimer's. The Shasta County Search and Rescue team has been searching through the night and will continue throughout the day. Mr Sergeant is a white male, 5'11", 155 lbs, blue eyes, with gray balding hair. He was wearing a light plaid polo shirt, dark blue jeans, brown leather shoes, a tan hat with flaps in the neck area. He was last seen on Simmons Road, south of Placer Road. He was walking through the woods towards Texas Spring Road. If you have any information please contact Sergeant Lillibridge at 530-246-1168.

On 7/11/07 at 0915 hrs., Mr. Sergeant was located in a heavily wooded area near Texas Springs Road with the assistance of the CHP helicopter as well as Search and Rescue personnel. Mr. Sergeant was found in excellent condition and returned home.

VICTIM: Enoch Robertson WMA, 46 yrs.

On 7/2/07 at approximately 1910 hrs., the Shasta County Sheriff's Office received a report of an unoccupied raft (yellow 2 person), floating southbound down the Sacramento River between River Ranch Road and Riverland Estates. The reporting party, Greg Hector advised he had secured the raft on the bank of the river but did not observe anyone in the area. He also advised he observed and recovered a life jacket near the raft. Boating Safety Officers requested CHP Air Ops to fly over the area, however they were unable to observe anyone in distress.

At approximately 2137 hrs., Redding Police Department received a report of an overdue/missing person on the Sacramento River. Wendy Robertson reported she had dropped her husband Enoch Robertson off at the Bonnyvuiew boat ramp at approximately 1930 hrs., and had not heard from him since. The raft and life jacket previously located by Greg Hector matched the description of the raft used by Enoch Robertson. Boating Safety Officers then responded and searched the River but there was no sign of the missing person.

On 7/3/07 at 0700 hrs., the search resumed for Mr Robertson. The Boating Safety Unit put a boat on the river to continue searching by water, and a CHP helicopter was launched to search by air. At approximatley 0830 hrs., the Sheriff's Office was notified by a citizen residing on River Crest Dr. of a person yelling for help. The noise was heard coming from the area of the river. Mr Robertson was then located in good health on the east side of the river directly across from River Crest Dr. He advised he had fallen out of his raft when it got stuck on a snag in the river, then had to swim to a nearby shore. He spent all night wandering in the wooded area in an attempt to locate a road or residence. Mr Robertson was not wearing a personal floatation device and feels very fortunate to be in good condition. He did not require any medical attention or treatment.

SUSPECT(S): Tammy Lee Cromp of Redding, James Patrick Alsip of Anderson, Tracy Rene McWilliams, Lynette Marie Demello, and Robert Michal Miller of Cottonwood

On 6/26/07 deputies from the Shasta County Sheriff's Office stopped a vehicle in the Cottonwood area, for a vehicle violation. The driver, identified as James Alsip and the passenger identified as Tammy Cromp were contacted. Property was observed in the bed of the pickup that was believed to be stolen. This information was confirmed and both Cromp and Alsip were arrested for parole violations.

Further investigation revealed that the stolen property was from the jurisdiction of Shasta County Sheriff's Office, Redding Police Department and Tehama County Sheriff's Office. A search warrant was obtained for the above listed residence. Stolen property was recovered from within the residence and garage that had been reported to the Redding Police Department, Tehama County Sheriff's Office and the California Highway Patrol. Tracy McWilliams and Lynette Demello were in the residence and arrested for possession of stolen property. Robert Miller was inside the residence and arrested for a parole violation pending further investigation.

Prior to the search warrant being executed a Jeep Cherokee was seen leaving the residence at a high rate of speed. Both marked and unmarked units of the Shasta County Sheriff's Office pursued this vehicle. The vehicle ultimately crashed into the water at the Reading Island boat ramp. Several occupants exited the vehicle and fled on foot. The Jeep Cherokee was reported stolen to the California Highway Patrol. In the Cherokee was a Yamaha motorcycle reported stolen to the California Highway Patrol.

The post mortem examination on Trevienne Hale was conducted today by Forensic Pathologist Doctor, Susan Comfort. Doctor Comfort found the immediate cause of death was blunt force injuries of the head.

CRIME / INCIDENT: Assault With A Deadly Weapon
LOCATION: Dry Creek Station 22025 Hwy 299, Bella Vista
VICTIM(S): #1 William Redinbaugh 37 yrs., #2 Gavin Priddy 25 yrs., #3 Jeffery Anderson, 24 yrs., #4 Christopher Lowery 23 yrs., Donald Johnson 35 yrs.
SUSPECT: Jimmy Stomps 29 yrs., Redding

On June 24, 2007 at approximately 0156 hrs., deputies responded to the Dry Creek Station regarding a possible fight about to occur in the parking lot. When deputies arrived on scene over fifty people were in the parking lot and several physical fights were taking place. Several subjects were injured and laying in the parking lot. During the investigation it was determined that a fight had taken place at Jimmy Stomps vehicle. Stomps attempted to flee the scene hitting and running over the five victims listed above. Stomps fled the scene prior to deputies arrival and several other fights broke out at that time. The crowd in the parking lot was very uncooperative towards deputies upon arrival and during the investigation. The Redding Police Department and the Highway Patrol responded to the scene to assist the Sheriff's Department. Six subjects were arrested on charges of drunk in public and obstructing/delaying a peace officer. All five victims were transported by ambulance to both Mercy Medical Center and Shasta Regional Medical Center. Four of the victims were treated and released. Redinbaugh was kept at Mercy Medical Center in critical condition. Deputies located Stomps and he was arrested and booked into the jail for assault with a deadly weapon. The investigation on this case is ongoing.

VICTIM: 9 yr., old male

On June 23, 2007 at approximately 1320 hrs., Shasta County Sheriff's Office Boating Safety Unit received a report of a 9 yr. old male face down in the water not breathing. Sheriff's Office Boating Safety Deputies were dispatched to the location as well as medical personnel. The victim had been wearing a life vest and was swimming close to shore when he was located floating face down. He was immediately removed from the water and CPR was performed on him by the United States Forest Service employee and an off duty nurse. He regained consciousness and was stabilized at the scene. The victim was then transported to Mercy Medical Center where he has been admitted for observation.

Hale was involved in a boating accident on Whiskeytown Lake on 6/22/07 at approximately 2030 hrs. Hale was a passenger in a boat that was struck by another boat. Hale was transported to Mercy Medical Center and pronounced dead. A post mortem examination is scheduled for early next week.

On 6/19/07 approximately eight dive team members and two boat operators from the boating safety unit continued searching areas of the Sacramento River South of Sundays accident site. Divers focused their efforts North of Clear Creek including the inlet to Clear Creek itself. Mr. Cox nor any other evidence was located during today's search.

The large scale search efforts will be suspended at this time. Increased river patrols and arial searches by California Highway Patrol helicopter will continue periodically over the next two weeks. The use of a cadaver dog will be evaluated in the next few days.

On 6/18/07 members from the Shasta County Sheriff's Department conducted a "minor decoy" operation in Shasta County. The decoy operation is funded through a grant from ABC. During this operation several businesses were visited and two of the businesses, Goodtimes Pizza and Joe's Giant Orange sold alcohol to the minor decoy.

CRIME / INCIDENT: Boating Accident, 1 missing person
LOCATION: Sacramento River
VICTIM: William Cox Sr.

On 6/17/07 at approximately 1615 hrs., the Shasta County Sheriff's Office received a report of a Boating Accident on the Sacramento River just South of the South Bonnyview Boat Ramp. Boating Safety Officers responded to the scene and found that Larry Schaller had been operating his boat South of the South Bonnyview Boat Ramp when he collided with a large snag in the river. Schaller's vessel over turned and sank. The vessel was occupied by 3 other people, Donna Schaller, William Cox Sr. and Heidi Cox. Larry, Donna and Heidi made it to shore. Heidi was transported to Mercy Hospital in critical condition; William Cox is missing. Search and Rescue and the dive team were called to the scene and checked the shorelines and immediate area with negative results. Volunteer search efforts will resume tomorrow morning.

None of the occupants were wearing flotation devices although they were present in the vessel.

No alcohol was involved in the accident.

The investigation of the accident is ongoing.

The Sheriff's Office is proud to announce the partnership with Burney Mountain Power. Burney Mountain Power is now accepting green waste products Friday through Tuesday from 0900-1700 hours. Burney Mountain Power has a full time employee monitoring the site and inspecting loads coming in. Burney Mountain Power is accepting all green waste products except lawn clippings, treated wood, painted wood, and stumps. The Sheriff's Office can submit criminal cases to the District Attorney's Office of people dumping anything but green waste at the facility or in the facility after the listed hours. LOCATION: 299 West near Buckhorn Summit
VICTIM(S): Lynda Sheats, 55 yrs.

On 6/10/07 Sheats was reported missing to the Shasta County Sheriff's Department. Sheats was last seen on 6/10/07 at approximately 1500 hrs., as she was riding her motorcycle with a group of friends eastbound on Highway 299 West. Sheats was last seen by a member of her group just east of Buckhorn Summit. It was determined that Sheats was missing when the group reached Whiskeytown Lake. A member of the group contacted the Sheriff's Department at 1944 hrs.

The Sheriff's Department Search and Rescue team responded to the area along with the California Highway Patrol. At approximately 2336 hrs., Sheats was located by a Highway Patrol Officer. Sheats was approximately one hundred feet down an embankment on Highway 299 West just east of Buckhorn Summit. The Highway Patrol, Sheriff's Mountain Rescue Team and Cal-Fire used ropes to rescue Sheats.

Sheats was airlifted to Mercy Medical Center for treatment. The cause of Sheats accident is under investigation by the Highway Patrol.

On 6/1/07 at approximately 0830 hrs., Shasta County Sheriff's Office deputies and investigators served a search warrant for stolen property at the above location. Numerous items were located and linked to at least 5 recent burglary and theft cases. Wampler was not at the location and the investigation is continuing.

LOCATION: Barney St., Anderson
SUSPECT: Doyle Woods, 43 yrs.

On 5/29/07 at approximately 1715 hrs., Deputies observed Doyle Woods driving his vehicle on Deschutes Rd., near Corner Way. Deputies recognized Woods from prior contacts and knew that he had numerous felony warrants for his arrest. Deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Woods but he refused to yield driving in excess of one hundred miles per hour. Deputies pursued Woods from Deschutes Rd., to the area of Corner Way, then onto Barney St. Woods then drove his vehicle onto a narrow dirt road at a high rate of speed and lost control of his vehicle which resulted in the vehicle rolling over and into a power pole where it came to rest. Woods exited the vehicle and ran approximately 70 yards from Deputies who then took Woods into custody.

LOCATION: Jones Valley Point, Pit Arm, Shasta
VICTIM: Unidentified white male adult

On 5/26/07 at approximately 1608 hrs., a reported boating collision occurred at Shasta Lake , on the Pit arm near Jones Valley Point.

Deputies of the Shasta County Boating Safety Unit responded to investigate.

Based on the statement of witnesses and parties the following was determined.

Michael Moynihan, 30 yrs., of Redding had launched his vessel at the Jones Valley Public Ramp. Michael Moynihan and his family headed northbound toward Jones Valley Point.

As Michael Moynihan reached the area of the Pit Arm, he noticed a Personal Water Craft (PWC) traveling toward his port (left) side on plane operated by an unidentified white male adult operator. Michael Moynihan attempted to avoid the collision by slowing and turning to the right.

The unidentified operator of the PWC continued and collided into the port (left) side of Michael Moynihan's vessel.

Michael Moynihand and his occupants entered the water to render aid.

The unidentified operator was transported to Mercy Medical Center as a Trauma Alert. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Michael Moynihan showed no signs of intoxication at the collision site. He was tested for alcohol with 0.00 BAC.

Shasta County Coroner's Office will determine the identification of the unidentified operator, notify next of kin and determine if alcohol and/or drugs were related.

Cause of the accident is still under investigation.

On 3/3/07 at approximately 2023 hrs., SHASCOM dispatch received a report of a disturbance with possible shots fired. While deputies were en route they learned of a shooting victim arriving at Mercy Medical Center. This shooting victim was related to the disturbance. Raymond Lego was a victim of a single gunshot wound. Detectives from the Shasta County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit investigated the case and learned that Anthony Partee was the shooter. With the assistance of the Chico Police Department Anthony Partee was arrested in Chico, California

On 5/14/07 at approximately 1410 hrs., deputies responded to a call of a residential burglary at 8113 Churn Creek Road. Prior to the deputies arrival they were advised that the victim last saw the suspect at the rear of her residence then run northbound on Churn Creek Road. Deputies, California Highway Patrol Air Operations, and a K-9 Officer with the Redding Police Department responded, set up a perimeter, and eventually located the above listed suspect hiding under a residnece north of the victim's house. Deputies with the assistance of the California Highway Patrol, and Redding Police Departments K-9, located the suspect under the house. Additional information will follow.

SUSPECT: WMA, 601", 160 lbs, LSW: blk ski mask w/wht trim around the eyes and mouth, white sweatshirt, long basketball style shorts w/stripes down the side and long socks that meet at the bottom of shorts

On 5/9/07 at approximately 2100 hrs., the above described male suspect walked into the Midway Market and brandished a small silver handgun at the cashier. The suspect fled southbound on Hwy 273 with an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspect is possibly still in possession of the gun.

The suspect was possibly with a WFA, approximately 505, thin build, long dark hair in a ponytail and last seen wearing a dark colored tank top with light, possibly denim skirt. This female was possibly involved and is a person of interest.

The investigation into the death of John Bowles has been continuing. Over the last week a series of leads have developed that identified Tonya Boyle as a suspect in the stabbing death of John Bowles. Tonya Boyle, an acquaintance of John Bowles and a resident of Shasta Lake Mobile Home Park in the City of Shasta Lake was re-interviewed on today's date. During her interview Tonya admitted to stabbing John Bowles on the evening of April 8, 2007. Tonya Boyle was booked at the Shasta County Jail on a open count of murder.

VICTIM: David Sue, AMA, 55 yrs. Southern California

On 5/1/07 at approximately 2332 hrs., the Shasta County Sheriff's Office received a report of an overdue person, David Sue. Sue had come up from Southern California to cut wood in the Snowmoblie Park area for a local resident. Sue had left the residen't house at 1000 hrs., and had not returned. Deputies from Patrol Operations and Burney Substation, with the use of 4-wheel drive vehicles, responded to Snowmobile Park and subsequently found Sue stuck in the mud, approximately 4 miles north of the park on a service road. Sue was found in good condition and his vehicle was removed.

CRIME / INCIDENT: Evading Police Officer, Reckless Driving & Driving under the influence of an Alcoholic Beverage
LOCATION: Half Time Pizza in the Burney Area
VICTIM: State of California
SUSPECT(S): Daniel L. Sweig 57 yrs., Kathleen Wilson 54 yrs.

On 4/30/07 at approximately 1948 hrs., the Shasta County Sheriff's Office received a complaint of subjects drinking alcohol in a vehicle in front of Half Time Pizza. Deputies responded to the location and located the vehicle matching the description near Duel's Diner. Upon initial contact with the driver, he was identified as Daniel Sweig, the deputy could see an open container of an alcoholic beverage in the vehicle. The female passenger was identified as Kathleen Wilson. Wilson had a felony warrant for her arrest.

Sweig failed to comply with the deputies orders and started his vehicle. Sweig drove recklessly for over sixteen miles, ranging in speed form 20 MPH to over 100 MPH. Sweig drove his vehicle to his residence off of Bidwell Rd., where he was taken into custody. Sweig will be booked into the Shasta County Jail on the above listed charges. Wilson was booked on a felony warrant. The California Highway Patrol assisted in the investigation.

VICTIM: State of California, Mary Macanas of Marysville
SUSPECT(S): Don Likens 18 yrs., Margarita Priddy 19 yrs., Ray Miller 20 yrs., Rick Carpenter 32 yrs.

On 4/28/07 at approximately 2058 hrs., Deputy Johnston observed a vehicle driving erratically eastbound on Hwy 299 in the area of Holiday Road. Upon running the license plate, the vehicle returned stolen out of Yuba County. Deputy Johnston attempted to stop the vehicle at which time a pursuit ensued. During the pursuit speeds reached excess of 100 MPH. The occupants threw several items out the window of the vehicle during the pursuit. The pursuit ended on Oak Run Road, at which time all the occupants in the vehicle fled. The total length of the pursuit was 8.2 miles. A female identified as Margarita Priddy was located and taken into custody for a violation of parole. Deputy Tyler Thompson and his K-9 assisted in searching for the suspects.

Deputies were called back to the area of Oak Run Road, at 0202 hours, for a subject sleeping in the reporting parties vehicle. While deputies were enroute they located Ray Miller. Miller admitted to assisting in the theft of the vehicle and being in the vehicle during the pursuit. Miller was taken into custody for vehicle theft and several other charges. Deputies took the subject sleeping in the vehicle into custody without incident. The subject was identified as Don Likens. Likens was identified to be the driver of the vehicle during the pursuit. Likens was booked into the Shasta County Jail for Evading a Police Officer and several other charges. The California Highway Patrol assisted in the investigation.

On 4/14/07 at approximately 1322 hrs., Richard Parker led Deputies N/B on Cascade Blvd. in a vehicle pursuit. Parker crashed his vehicle on Cascade Blvd. near Fell St., which caused moderate injuries to his passengers, Clyde Davis and Dustin Biendara. It was determined that Parker was under the influence of alcohol and he was arrested for the above listed charges. Passengers Nicholas Pitts and Dustin Biendara were arrested for public intoxication and obstructing a peace officer.

On 4/12/07 at approximately 2214 hrs., Deputy Kropholler observed Perham entering N/B I-5 from the City of Shasta Lake. Perhan's vehicle left the roadway onto the shoulder nearly hit roadway markers on the northbound on-ramp. A vehicle stop was conducted on I-5 at Wonderland Blvd. Using Sheriff's Narcotics K-9 "Maximus", a search of the vehicle was conducted. Inside the trunk of the vehicle 13 pounds of processed Marijuana and 9 pound of concentrated Hashish was located.

Perham was taken into custody for the charges listed above. The narcotics have a street vallue estimated at one hundred forty thousand dollars.

The Shasta County Sheriff's Office is continuing its investigation into the fire and death of six people at 5120 LeConge Dr., in Happy Valley. The investigation into the cause of the fire and manner of deaths has been considered suspicious and as a result, Sheriff's investigators are conducting an extensive investigation. Personnel from the Sheriff's Lab, the Department of Justice Bureau of Forensics, Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms and arson investigators with Cal-Fire (CDF) are presently at the residence looking for clues. It is anticipated that the processing of evidence at the scene will last late into Wednesday evening.

On April 4, 2007 during a Shasta County Sheriff's joint briefing, it was brought to the attention of the Major Crimes Unit, that a $15,000.00 bronze statue was stolen from a residence on Churn Creek. A photograph of this statue was provided to investigators who recognized it as being part of the property left at the Tabitha Markle residence, located at 2636 Ravenwood Rd., in Anderson, CA. The property was left because it was not part of the search warrant obtained by investigators for a pending mail theft case. It was not known at the time that this property was stolen. A second search warrant was issued for the bronze statue, which was recovered from the Ravenwood address. Additional charges are pending against Tabitha Markle for grand theft.

On March 25, 2007 at approximatelly 1428 hrs., the Shasta County Sheriff's Office received a report from Charles Braun that his residence had been burglarized. Braun reported numerous items had been removed from his residence as well as an undisclosed amount of money. Information was received that a Hawley Perkins and a Douglas Garland may have the burglary.

At approximately 2107 hrs., the Sheriff's Office received information in regards to two subjects who had broken a window and entered into a vacant apartment off of Mountain View Rd., in Burney. The Sheriff's Office arrived on scene and found Douglas Garland and Hawley Perkins inside the apartment. Garland and Perkins were taken into custody without incident.

During an interview with Perkins, she admitted to breaking into the Braun residence with Garland and removing some items from the residence. Both Garland and Perkins were booked into the Shasta County Jail. This case is still under investigation.

On March 23, 2007 at approximately 2347 hrs., Shasta County Sheriff's Deputies from the City of Shasta Lake responded to a reported stabbing at the above listed location. Further investigation revealed that the suspect stabbed the victim with a box cutter during an altercation. A friend transported the victim to Mercy Medical Center. The victim is currently in stable condition at Mercy Medical Center. The suspect was booked into the Shasta County Jail for assault with a deadly weapon. The Major Crimes Division of the Shasta County Sheriff's Office is conducting further investigation.

On March 23, 2007 an employee at a Big Foot Recycling Center site the corner of McConnell Ave. and Shasta Dam Blvd. in Shasta Lake, reported a burglary to a locked trailer. Also hazardous waste container for discarded needles was removed from its locked container. The theft of the hazardous waste container poses potential health risks due to exposure to potentially contaminated needles.

On March 18, 2007at approximately 0300 hrs., Garcia was ejected from his vehicle. The accident occurred on 1-5 southbound on ramp from Hwy 44 E. Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene. A postmortem examination is tentatively scheduled for March 19, 2007.

The accident is currently under investigation by the Redding Office of the California Highway Patrol.

On March 13, 2007 at approximately 0013 hrs.,subject was observed speeding on Ashby Road in the City of Shasta Lake. When the deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the subject fled reaching speeds over 100 miles per hour. During the pursuit the subject blacked out his vehicle and brandished a rifle out the driver side window. The subject finally yielded at Caterpillar and North Market St., the subject resisted and a taser was deployed.

The subject was arrested and booked on the above charges without further incident.

On 3/12/07 at 1049 hrs., SHASCOM dispatch received a report of an unconscious male in his residence off Old School Rd., in Round Mountain. The Sheriff's Office responded and while en-route were advised by responding medical units that the subject was deceased. Initial information revealed that a family member of Jon Ford's had gone to his residence after not responding to a phone call. The family member discovered Ford in the residence unconscious. Ford was believed to be the victim of a homicide due to the evidence in the house and Ford's condition. Sheriff's Investigators, Sheriff's Lab Personnel and the Department of Justice responded and began their investigation. Ford's body was removed from the residence by the Shasta County Coroner's Office at approximately 1800 hours. The Sheriff's Office will will return to the Ford residence on 3/13/07 to continue with their investigation.

SUSPECT VEHICLE: White sedan that was mentioned in the first press release has been located and identified. This office is now looking for a small blue colored sedan, possibly being a Dodge Neon that belongs to the black male adult know as "PT".

SUSPECT(S): Described as a black male, mid twenties, 5'10" to 6'0", medium build, his hair is described as dark brown 2 inch in length described as being in multiple twisted/spiked segments all over his head, a 1/2 inch long shaggy goatee, wearing a red tuxedo type suit with pin stripes running vertically.

Per witnesses in this case this black male adult goes by the name of "PT" no further information. It is also believed that there were two other black male adults present with him during the shooting only known as "Pimp Jr." and "Pimp Midget."

SYNOPSIS: As of today's date the Shasta County Sheriff's Office, Major Crimes Unit continues the investigation into the attempted murder of Raymond Lego. This office is seeking the public's help in locating the black male adult known as "PT".

This office is also seeking the identity of one of the witnesses at the party that also fired a handgun after "PT" shot Raymond Lego.

The stranded subjects were trying to recover an ATV that was stuck in the snow earlier in the week. Members of the Search & Rescue Jeep Posse responded and recovered both the subjects along with all vehicles without incident.

On March 3, 2007 at approximately 2320 hrs., SHASCOM Dispatch received a report of a disturbance with possible shots fired in a field on private property off Highway 299 East near Woodman Hill. While en-route, officers learned of a shooting victim arriving by private vehicle at Mercy Medical Center. The shooting victim was related to the disturbance officers were enroute to.


Raymond Lego had been driven to Mercy by other members who were in attendance at an outdoor gathering on private property. Lego was shot at the gathering by the listed suspect for unknown reasons. The weapon believed used was a large caliber handgun. Lego was admitted to Mercy in stable condition. Investigators are presently at the scene conducting further evidence work and interviewing witnesses.

On March 2, 2007 at approximately 2030 hrs., the Shasta County Sheriff's Office was notified via Shascom Dispatch of overdue subjects at the Off Highway Vehicle Park. The subjects were on off road motorcycles and had run out of fuel. Due to cold weather and snow conditions a search was conducted involving Shasta County Search and Rescue personnel, who were deployed in the OHV park. The above subjects were located at 0313 hrs., they were found next to a campfire, in good health without injuries. They were transported off the mountain and re-united with their families.

On March 2, 2007 at approximately 2237 hrs., Deputies from the Shasta County Sheriff's Office conducted a traffic stop on a 2004 GMC Yukon for a traffic violation. The driver of the vehicle was contacted and identified as Tabitha Markle. Deputies observed a large quantity of checks, credit cards, and U.S. mail, with various names, inside the vehicle in plain view. Also observed in the vehicle were bolt cutters and pry bars. Further investigation revealed that some of the mail inside the vehicle had been reported as stolen. Tabitha Markle was arrested for possession of stolen property and booked into the Shasta County Jail (Bail $10,000.00). A search warrant was obtained and served at the residence of Tabitha Markle by Deputies of the Shasta County Sheriff's Office and U.S. Postal Inspector. Large quantities of stolen property including checks, credit cards, and U.S. mail were located and recovered from inside the residence as well as the vehicle.

The investiation is continuing with several allied agencies involved.

On March 2, 2007 at approximately 2047 hrs., Shasta County deputies responded to a medical assist call at 21243 Big Bend Road in Burney. Upon arrival a subject, later identified as Jay J. Wood, ran out the back door of the residence. Deputies pursued through two feet of snow into the mountains with K-9 assistance. The subject was tracked into the woods hiding in a pine tree approximately 100 yards from the reisdence. The subject was found to have an active felony warrant, and refused to come down and threatened to jump on deputies.

Hostage negotiator Randy Dyer was contacted to assist in the situation. After approximately 45 minutes in negotiations with Wood, he came down.

Wood was booked into the Shasta County Jail without further incident on the outstanding warrant and new charges of obstruction.

On February 25, 2007 from 1200 hrs. to 1800 hrs., members from the Shasta County Sheriff's Office and Alcohol Beverage Control conducted a "minor decoy" operation in the City of Anderson and the unicorporated area of Shasta County. The above decoy operations are funded through a grant from ABC. During this oepration, several businesses were visited and two of the businesses, Bella Vista Pizza of Bella Vista and La Corona of Palo Cedro, sold alcohol to the minor decoy. The Shasta County Sheriff's Office would like to thank the Califonria Department of Alcohol Beverage Control for funding this program and local area ABC licensed businesses for checking ID's and refusing to sell to the "decoy".

On February 22, 2007 at approximately 0354 hrs., deputies responded to a burglary alarm at the Pine Grove 76 in the City of Shasta Lake. Upon arrival deputies saw Kathleen Flaherty stepping out of the business through a broken window. Flaherty was carrying cigarettes and lighters taken from inside the store. Flaherty was quickly taken into custody without incident. It was discovered through the investigation that Flaherty had broken out a total of four windows on the front of the business. She was also found wearing stolen clothing items from inside the store. A rock was recovered from inside the store, and it appears to have been used to break the windows.

The damage to the business was estimated at approximately twelve hundred dollars. The stolen items recovered on the scene were estimated to be worth approximately sixty dollars. Flaherty was booked into the Shasta County Jail on the above listed charges.

SUSPECT(S): Joshua Raymond Rogers, 18 yrs.

On February 16, 2007, at approximately 1419 hrs., a vehicle accident occurred about a block away from Central Valley High School just after school was dismissed for the day. A 16 year old female juvenile was sitting on the hood of 18 year old Joshua Rogers' vehicle. Rogers is an acquaintance of the female juvenile. Rogers apparently drove eastbound on Fort Peck St. between Lassen St. and Ashby Rd. with the female juvenile on the hood at a slow rate of speed approximately (10 MPH). The female juvenile road on the hood of the vehicle for approximately 170 ft. before she slid off and the vehicle drove over her. Rogers immediately stopped his vehicle, although the female juvenile completely cleared the underside of the vehicle without her being run over by the tires. The female juvenile suffered a head concussion, a laceration to her chin, and abrasions to her mid-torso. Rogers was evaluated by deputies at the scene and it was determined that drugs and alcohol was not a factor in the incident. Rogers was cited for misdemeanor-reckless driving and was released by Sheriff's deputies. A report will be submitted to the Shasta County District Attorney for review.

Shasta County Sheriff Tom Bosenko is launching a Business Watch Program to assist local merchants and business people in the fight against crime. Merchants who are interested can complete a Business Watch application to the Sheriff's Investigations Division at the address on the bottom of the application.

Merchants that have an interest and are susceptible to theft and fraud will be notified via e-mail of information in the form of a Business Watch Alert. Businesses will be alerted to information such as counterfeit bills being passed in the area, check forgeries, fraud and other information that can assist in preventing loss. Merchants can also act as "eyes and ears" by reporting suspicious activity or other information to the Sheriff's Office.

On February 14, 2007, Sheriff Investigators obtained a search warrant and went to the residence of Douglas Austin Wroe at 4111 Meade Street in the City of Shasta Lake. It was believed that Wroe was in possession of child pornography at his residence. Upon execution of the search warrant, pornography depicting children under the age of 14 was discovered. Investigators took Wroe into custody and further investigation is continuing. Wroe is a 290 P.C. sex registrant. Also living at the residence are two juveniles who were not present during the search.

A 45 year old female was contacted at the scene and reported to deputies she was the driver of the vehicle. It was determined the vehicle was traveling westbound on Shasta Dam Blvd. and struck the listed pedestrians as they were crossing Shasta Dam Blvd. at Shasta Way in a designated crosswalk. All victims were transported to Mercy Medical Center. No citations or arrests were made at this time. Case pending further investigation.

On February 4, 2007 at approximately 1925 hrs., Deputies from the Shasta County Sheriff's Office responded to 3233 Shank Road, on a reported armed robbery. Upon arrival it was determined the reported suspects had left the area in a dark blue SUV.

During the investigation is was discovered the suspects were acquaintance to the victim and arrived unannounced. One of the suspects displayed an unknown type handgun and demanded money from the victim. The suspects took the victim's wallet, which contained approximately $580.00 in cash, and disabled the victim's telephone and left the area.

Deputies were able to locate Doug Coleman, who was on searchable felony probation out of Shasta County. He was with Melissa Neumann at their address in the City of Redding. Coleman and Melissa Neumann were taken into custody without incident. During a probation search of Coleman's residence, three marijuana plants were located inside a shed on the property.

The investigation into the whereabouts of Stephen is continuing.

LOCATION: Solider Mountain Road
VICTIM: Robert Edward Scalf, 59 yrs.

On February 3, 2007 at approximately 2013 hrs., Scalf's pickup truck struck a tree on Solider Mountain Road. Scalf was ejected from his vehicle. A postmortem examination is scheduled for February 6, 2007.

The accident is currently under investigation by the Burney Office of the California Highway Patrol.

LOCATION: 20258 Tamarack Ave. Burney
VICTIM: Pit River Casino
SUSPECT: James Scott Rowton, 19 yrs.

On January 27, 2007 at approximately 1405 hrs., the Shasta County Sheriff's Office responded to the Pit River Casino regarding a theft of money.

During the investigation deputies along with staff from the Pit River Casino reviewed surveillance video. The video showed employee, James S. Rowton removing money from several areas throughout the casino. Rowton left work on the morning of Janury 27, 2007, after working his night shift with an undisclosed amount of money.

Rowton was contacted in the early morning hours of Janury 28, 2007, by deputies from the Sheriff's Office. He volunteered to go to the Sheriff's Office and give a statement in regards to the theft. Rowton was later arrested and booked into the Shasta County Jail for Burglary and Grand Theft.

This incident is still being investigated by the Shasta County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit.

Sheriff Tom Bosenko announces the opening of the new Shasta County Sheriff's Substation located in Lakehead at the old Canyon Elementary School. This station was made available by cooperation efforts between Superintendent, John Stromyer, Gateway Unified School District and the Shasta County Sheriff's Office. This law enforcement facility will be utilized by two Resident Deputy Sheriffs who are assigned to the area of Northern Shasta County. The Resident North Patrol area is approximately 600 square miles. This facility will allow the Resident Deputy Sheriffs who work this area to interview both suspects and victims in the privacy of an office setting. This office area also allows the deputies to complete their reports in a timelier manner by utilizing an updated computer system, which allows the deputies to send their dictated reports via computer. CRIME / INCIDENT: Battery on a Peace Officer, 69 PC and 148 PC
LOCATION: Hat Creek Full Gospel Indian Mission
VICTIM: Quentin Johnston, Deputy Sheriff
SUSPECT(S): Nicole M. Wilson, DOB 4/16/77

On January 23, 2007 at approximately 1526 hrs., deputies Steve Harper and Quentin Johnston responded to a residence at the Hat Creek Full Gospel Indian Mission in Hat Creek, regarding a child custody dispute.

During the course of their investigation an altercation broke out between the mother of the child in question and other family members. During this incident Deputy Johnston was elbowed in the facial area by Nicole Wilson. Other deputies who were on duty responded to the area and order was restored. Wilson was eventually taken into custody and booked on the above charges.

Deputy Johnston sustained only minor injuries from the incident, redness and complaint of pain to his facial area. This incident is still under investigation by the Shasta County Sheriff's Office. The Shasta County Sheriff's Offices was assisted by the California Highway Patrol during this incident.

On January 23, 2007 at approximately 1946 hrs., Union Pacific Railroad employees reported a suspicious vehicle in the area of construction equipment near the railroad tracks at the north end of the railroad trestle on the Pit River Bridge crossing Shasta Lake. Sheriff's deputies responded and intercepted a full size suburban described by railroad employees leaving the area at Turntable Bay.

Four occupants were contacted in the vehicle and it was determined that they were from out of the area and traveling from Southern California to Idaho. An occupant of the vehicle, David Mori was found to have an active warrant and on probation out of another County. Mori was taken into custody and a search incident to arrest found identification belonging to other victims of crimes from outside of Shasta County was also found. Suspected methamphetamine was discovered and after conducting an investigation it was determined to belong to Michael Villegas who was taken into custody on drug charges. The two female occupants were interviewed and released at the scene and the vehicle was towed. Inside of the vehicle was a large amount of construction equipment. Subsequent follow-up found a theft from the construction site at the Pit River Bridge in which items missing were observed in the suspect's vehicle. A search warrant was obtained and upon researching the vehicle the equipment from the theft of the Pit River Bridge construciton site was recovered. Additionally investigators are presently attempting to contact agencies of jurisdictions over the thefts for further information. The two females, Olivia Lopez-Grajeda and Vanessa Nightingale were taken into custody on 1/24/07 in relation to the stolen property discovered. They had gone to the Shasta County Jail to visit Mori and Villegas and were taken into custody without incident on charges of possession of stolen property.

SUSPECT: Burt Lewis and Daren Cole

On January 17, 2007 at approximately 1000 hrs., a citizen reported a neighbor's house was possibly in the process of being burglarized. Shasta County Deputies responded to the area of the burglary. While enroute to the call, a deputy observed a vehicle that matched the suspect vehicle. The vehicle was leaving the area and the Deputy attempted to stop the vehicle. The vehicle failed to yield. While in pursuit of the vehicle, it was verified the vehicle was reported as a stolen vehicle out of the Anderson area.

Two Shasta County Sheriff Deputies pursued the vehicle and the pursuit ended in the City of Redding, when the driver of the vehicle stopped the vehicle and he and the passenger fled on foot. A search of the area was conducted by Shasta County Sheriff's Office, Redding Police Department, Anderson Police Department, and California Highway Patrol. Two male subject, Bert Lewis and Darren Cole, were apprehended and are currently in custody.

Several firearms were located in the stolen vehicle and one firearm was located in the area where Lewis and Cole were apprehended.

SUSPECT: Unknown

On January 15, 2007 at approximately 1030 hrs., a citizen found a box filled with 32 pieces of opened and unopened US mail located on the side of Union School Rd. near Phaedra Lane in Redding. Shasta County Sheriff's officials located names and addresses on the incoming/outgoing mail stemming from the City of Redding and the City of Shasta Lake. Efforts are being made to attempt to contact 17 different victims of the theft and return their mail. The investigation revealed the suspect(s) stole US mail from various mailboxes and cluster boxes, opened random pieces of mail and took personal checks out of the envelopes before discarding the remainder of US mail on the side of the road. The recovered unidentified US mail was placed into the Shasta County Sheriff's Crime Lab. The Shasta County Sheriff's Office criminal report will be forwarded to the US Postal inspector for further investigation.

On January 12, 2007, Governor Arnold Schwazenegger declared a State of Emergency in all 58 couties of California due to the cold weather. The Shasta County Sheriff's Office of Emergency Services has spoken with local shelters and learned that at this time the shelters have plenty of bed space and are able to handle the current influx of people.

The Sheriff's Office is constantly monitoring the situation and if the need arises, the Sheriff's Office, along with the American Red Cross, are prepared to open a warming center at the Shasta District Fair Grounds in Anderson.

As of this time, we have not received any calls for assistance due to the cold weather. If anyone is in need of assistance, please call 9-1-1 or SHASCom at 245-6540.

CRIME / INCIDENT: Evading Officer, Driving Under the Influence
LOCATION: S/B I-5 at Hwy 44
VICTIM: State of California
SUSPECT: Juvenile male, 16 yrs.

On January 6, 2007 at approximately 3:00 a.m. Deputy Baldwin attempted to stop a tan 1991 Ford Bronco southbound on I-5 near Highway 44, for suspicion of D.U.I. The driver, later found to be a 16 year old male, failed to yield and continued eastbound on Highway 44 into Redding. The driver led deputies in pursuit to Victor Avenue, at speeds in excess of 90 miles per hour. He lost control of his vehicle near the intersection of Conifer Lane and Victor Avenue, where his vehicle struck a guardrail and several trees before coming to rest in the backyard of an apartment complex on Conifer Lane.

The juvenile was located a few yards from the vehicle, where he collapsed after the collision. A preliminary investigation revealed that he had been drinking alcohol, which is likely the contributing factor of the accident. The juvenile was eventually released at the hospital to the custody of his parents, pending charges being filed with the District Attorney's Office.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the collision portion of this incident.

CRIME / INCIDENT: Assault with deadly weapon
LOCATION: Shingletown
VICTIM: Confidential
SUSPECT: Beverly Sue Reid, 47 yrs.

On January 5, 2007 at approximately 6:00 p.m. Shasta County Deputies responded to a report of shots fired in a residence in Shingletown. Upon arrival they met with the victim, who will remain confidential at this time due to the nature of the charges. The victim told deputies that her roommate, Beverly Reid, allegely had brandished a handgun at her, threatening to kill her over an argument. Reid then fired three rounds, two into the floor, and one out the door of the house as the victim fled the residence. Deputies quickly surrounded the home, and were able to talk Reid into coming out. She was taken into custody without incident. The weapon and a bullet hole in the floor of the residence were located during investigation.

Reid was transported to the Shasta County Jail and booked on the listed charges. Her bail is currently set at $50,000.
