° Public Safety Service Officer - Non-sworn
classification generally assigned to work in the custody environment
where the duties include processing inmates into detention facilities,
controlling visitation with inmates, monitoring security intercoms,
observing closed circuit security cameras, and all operations of a
security level.
° Legal Process Clerk I/II - This position
is a 24-hour, seven-day-per-week position which requires rotating
shifts, including full coverage on weekends and holidays. You must
be able to type at least 45 wpm. This position performs a wide variety
of law enforcement support tasks. You should have the ability to learn
various record keeping systems, fingerprinting and licensing needs,
issuing permits, confirm warrants, data entry, operate radio, etc.
° Correctional Officer I- Under supervision,
to work in a training capacity, learning to supervise inmates at the
County Detention Facility and maintain facility security; to learn
procedures and methods for the care, custody, and confinement of inmates;
to oversee work details and leisure activities; and to do related
work as required.
Participates in a formal correctional training program involving
both classroom and practical instruction and including physical and
firearm training. Subjects include community relations, and jail custody
and operations.
May temporarily perform custody duties in the jail while awaiting
assignment to the Correctional Officer CORE Course.
° Correctional Officer II- Under supervision, to guard
and supervise inmates in county jail facilities; and to do related
work as required.
This is the journey level class in the Sheriffs Correctional
Officer series. Incumbents rotate through various assignments and
are expected to learn and perform the full range of duties required.
It differs from the class of Correctional Officer I in that the latter
is a classification for incumbents who are attending the basic Correctional
Officer course approved by STC.
° Deputy Sheriff (Entry & Journey Level/Lateral
Classifications) - Under supervision, to perform law enforcement,
crime prevention and crime detection activities; to guard and supervise
inmates in County jail facilities; and to do related work as required.
This is both the entry and full journey level sworn class in the
Sheriff's series. Incumbents rotate through various assignments and
are expected to learn and perform the full range of duties required.
It differs from the class of Deputy Sheriff Trainee in that the latter
is a non-sworn class for incumbents who are attending the Basic POST
Academy.
